Just enough to make the ice super smooth.
This is actually something that is a step in a lot of cocktail recipes from the old books.

Is this why fountain cokes are so good? Because the ice is clear?

I tried this last night and didn’t notice any difference

IOW, exactly what it sounds like.

I just tried it, truly a delight.

This is how I rank my Coca-Cola serving preference.
1. In a glass bottle.
2. Fountain
3. Cold poured with no ice.
I don't like ice in my drinks unless its a fountain drink. If I drink it from a cup/glass cup, ice only waters it down.

Your father should have used a dick jacket

Never tried it, but the idea is that the small microscopic jagged edges from ice straight from the freezer cause the CO2 to be released from the coke more readily than rinsed ice, in which those small edges are now gone, so less fizz and more CO2 remains in the coke.

And the best part of you ran down your mom’s leg.

A frozen glass or mug with no ice beats all that

Ok, sounds like a dumb idea, and likely to water down your coke.
Curious enough to try it out

half moon shaped ice cubes totally piss me off. do some of the standard new fridge ice makers make any other shape?

I found microwaving the ice makes it taste better.
