Living in downtown Fort Lauderdale, I’d live better parks. We are about to re-open Huizenga Park after a big renovation, looks awesome…homeless will take it over in a week.

Nearly nothing, at least in Texas, is privately funded, when it comes to parks
Most of the new parks in Dallas have been private/public partnerships.

Robert Decherd is both iconic and unknown. He served as the president and CEO of A.H. Belo Corporation, owner of The Dallas Morning News, from 1987 to 2013, devoting himself to philanthropic public park projects after he left the company
Decherd has funded 4 or 5 new parks in Downtown
The new Freeway Deck Park near the zoo is largely funded by a private organization and a wealthy family

A public-private partnership, with significant contributions from the Southern Gateway Public Green Foundation (including a major gift from the Halperin family
And the Klyde Warren Freeway Deck park received the majority of its funding from private sector including $10,000,000 from Kelsey Warren (Energy Transfer Partners pipeline company). An LSU Landscape Architecture alum designed the park.

Tell me you've never played SimCity without telling me you've never played SimCity.

we spend millions on cricket parks in Sugarland that are useless to non Indians
And our baseball and football fields are useless to them. There’s an extremely high concentration of Indian Americans in the county who are taxpayers. As long as the cricket facilities are being regularly utilized, I have no problem with it, and my tax money is being spent on it. Just don’t build shite that won’t be utilized.

I am melting over the fact that we have more than enough green space. I love Green spaces.. i love parks.. i love walking trails.. i love our skateboard parks but I do not understand the point of building three new massive parks when we already have 16 massive parks. $50 + million is a lot of money to build more parks that we clearly do not need. That's all that I am complaining about and it seems like a lot of suburbs in Atlanta are doing the same thing.
What are the kickbacks to these local politicians always wanting to spend money on new parks? Why not spend that extra income on beatifying the downtown or adding sidewalks to streets that need them or spending more on the local police or fire departments? That's all I am complaining about.
There has to be a reason why local politicians are always pushing to build more parks - Yes, I get the health aspect of it but if suburbs do not need more parks but they are always pushing for new parks, there's a reason for it financially and considering that the parks are free... who's getting the kickbacks?

landspace. I would think that $50 million would go more towards road improvements, police and fire, perhaps education - How many damn parks does one small little town need? It's absurd. Is this common in the suburb where you live?
Are the current parks used?
Prevents low income housing so remember that.
Sounds like someone's brother in law has work for the next couple years.

Screw the parks, would much rather my city be a concrete hellscape and send the money to Israel and Ukraine instead.
On an honest note, we don't know what town you live in. I wish I had a park in my neighborhood I could walk my kid to. I would consider that a good use of tax money. Parks, libraries, and community colleges are three areas I really don't mind sensing my tax dollars too.

Wish Covington would spend on green space. It’s leaders just wants to destroy everything green and build. At least Mandevile has it right.

To be fair, Indians are like half the population of Sugar Land

One of my favorite things about Louisville is the extensive park system we have (starting with several parks created by Frederick Law Olmsted). We have around 120 parks and green spaces in Metro (about 13,000 acres). And that doesn’t include any Jefferson Memorial Forest or The Parklands (privately run, public access).
In my suburb specifically we have Veterans Memorial Park. And we frequent it quite a bit. It’s always busy with families too due to the playgrounds that are well maintained. I’m out at The Parklands a lot as well (and am a member, donating annually). And IMO I’m healthier for it mentally and physically.

So you are saying they need to spend that money on walls?

I live in a nice little subuurb in Atlanta which I love.. It's clean, great, safe and all of that
The reason why its "clean great and safe" is because yall are investing in the community with things like these parks. If you stop improving the community then the community is heading in the wrong direction.

I've never lived there but I like the way Louisville is planned from just driving there. They've done a good job preserving green space and the horse country farms without turning it into an urban hellscape.

did you ever wonder if maybe you
because it has
instead of apartment complexes or condos?
Seems your concerns would be better addressed by your local municipality instead of an LSU message board.

Parks (easy construction) are a great way to funnel money to family, friends and donors.
If want to have some fun, head to city hall and ask for the park contracts. Be mindfull of who's providing the maintenance if it's not the city.
