Does a more expensive mattress equal better sleep?

I haven't spent more than about $1500.00 for a mattress. Do the high dollar mattresses really make that much of a difference? Is it time to spend more?

When we moved last year, got a Tempurpedic. I feel like I sleep better, and when I get up early, it doesn't wake my wife. So far so good.

Not in my experience. I think it’s specific to your need. Which can change as you age. I have bought expensive mattresses that were terrible.

I for sure sleep better on the mattress I bought 3-4 years ago.

Granted, I had slept on the same double mattress for about 20 years that was the bottom bunk mattress I had since I was about 8…bought a brand new king and never slept better

It can, but first you might want to look into other options.

Do you have sleep apnea? I do and it nearly fricking killed me. I have a CPAP now and I sleep a looooot better.

Are you getting enough exercise? If you wear yourself out with a good workout at some point during the day, you will sleep much better at night.

What's your caffeine intake like? It can take up to something like 6 hours for caffeine effects to finally filter out of the body. If you're the type to have some coffee in the late afternoon, maybe try having it a bit earlier (or stopping after noon or something similar).

Also, try not to eat a big meal and/or heavy meal before bed. Indigestion impacts the depth of your sleep (and can wake you at night).

And finally, melatonin is your friend. It's not habit-forming and your body doesn't build a resistance to it. Take 10mg or so before bed and you'll likely sleep a bit more soundly (at least for the first few hours).

After you've checked off all those, then I would say look into a new mattress.

It isn't as much about the money as it is getting the correct mattress for you.

We are 100% sold on Tempur-Pedic. We have slept on them for 20 years. We bought 2 different brands of the "highly rated" memory foam mattress in a box option for the camp and replaced them both after a couple of years because you could tell they were already breaking down. We bit the bullet and replaced them with Tempu-Pedics and have been happy since.

We just bought a new bed for our sons room .. it’s a guest room at this point for when he and his wife come home for a weekend

She told me that it was the best night sleep that she had had in a while.

Don’t remember the brand off hand but can check — it was less than $600. I was not spending a fortune as it’ll be used maybe 5/6 times a year.

Yeah, I bought the Tempur Breeze or something like that a few years ago. My 2nd TP mattress. They’re game changers. The Breeze has cooling gel so it doesn’t get too hot.

The question is how flat is it?

I can't sleep on a tool room grade (B) surface plate, it has to be lab grade (AA) or I wake up with kinks in my back.

We were looking at the Helix but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Hard to spend that much money on something you can't see in stores. Anyone got a Helix?

After months of research and being 100% certain I did not want a bed in a box, we went with Saatva classic in plush soft for side sleepers and we’ve been sleeping better than we have in a while
