A pillow mattress topper made all the difference in the world.

My wife and I went to a posh hotel for our anniversay a couple of years back and the toppers were incredible.

She went on a mission to recreate it and did a damn fine job. And the topper was maybe $100.

I have a Sealy foam queen size. It sits on a wood base and I only have a mattress.

You go foam you can’t go wrong. The density and quality of materials is important. I like a firmer bed but not rock hard personally. I’ve had it 20 years and still gives a good sleep.

I went with an Allswell(on the cheaper end and made in USA) and an adjustable frame about a year ago. Very happy with both.

Latex foam mattresses are amazing. $1500 should get you a good one. Just make sure it is all latex and not a hybrid.

Hmmm... I would talk to a doctor about that. When I sleep on a bad mattress my whole back is sore, not just neck and shoulders. Not saying it couldn't be the mattress, but at least try sleeping elsewhere (a friend's, your parents' place, grandparents' etc) to test theirs out first to see if the soreness sticks with you. Chances are they aren't going to have the exact same mattress at each place so if the soreness sticks around you'll know there's likely something else going on.

I'm looking at this one and I think it fits our bill, but it's always a gamble.

Not in my experience. I think it’s specific to your need. Which can change as you age. I have bought expensive mattresses that were terrible.

My Tuft & Needle is about a $1000. By far the best mattress I’ve ever slept on.

Get Billy Cheek to custom build you a mattress. Game changer. Under $2,000 and worth twice that, imho.

Amazing craftsmanship.

i think it depends. i bought a mattress from a dump looking of a shop off florida boulevard. the ot recommended this guy and it has been the best money i have ever spent on a mattress. he custom makes them. he's also less expensive than the big box retail stores and every mattress place on every corner. not mass produced. and i firmly believe it's a better quality mattress.

see if they have someone in your town that custom makes mattresses. this would be the route i will go from here on out.

guy above my post with the correct information. billy cheek. older man, knows his stuff. just close your eyes when you go to visit his store.

I bought an all latex (talalay) mattress from Arizona Premium Mattress.

I was skeptical, but it's really all its cracked up to be. Soft, supportive, cool. It's really about the ideal material. Totally unexpected.

I can tell you Saatva (Loof and Leam) are the same as TempurPedic and just as good. I have had mine for 4 years and after 3 back surgeries it is extremely comfortable. Never wake up with back pain.

Don't worry about buying a great mattress. Buy a very good mattress and a very good dual adjustable mattress base.

Oh, and great sheets.

We have a Casper mattress. It's fine but I never noticed any real difference in improved sleep as advertised. On the plus side, a box frame isn't necessary underneath it, so the bed sits lower and it has made it easier for our two old dogs to jump up on during the winter, so I guess that's a plus.
