I asked a contractor friend of mine would it be ok to shut off for a week. He said yes, so now I do it just for peace of mind.
Also, my sprinkler system is on a separate meter so I can leave it on during the summer months.

Well yall are dumbasses. Every structure has a water shut off outside. And if you ding dongs can’t find it, call the fire department to turn off the water. Or call the water company to come shut it off.
What are yall? Eloi?

LA as in Louisiana, or LA as in Los Angeles? I've bought 4 houses over the years in La.
How do you screw up abbreviations that badly?
LA = Louisiana
La = Louisiana
Cities that don't share the names of states are abbreviated with periods between worlds.

Yep. If the house is empty water is off at the main

I don’t even put my water heater on the vacation mode…
But do you have it in the attic? If so, just hope you don't get a leak where it will the surface weak and have it full out the ceiling.

This topic reminds me about 25 years ago my dad got up to go to work and met water on the floor when he got out of bed lol

Do you not have a pan under yours?

Nextdoor neighbor had a pipe to the washing machine burst. It was a mess and they were out of the house for months.

Water heater in the attic, so yes.

I thought this was a shutdown analogy.

Most houses dont have that in LA In some states it is part of code I think
Every building with running water has this in Louisiana… some people can’t access the main meter than runs from the street to their home

Were they DR Horton or DSLD or something?
The mass produced starter homes seem to have it.
My 130 year old house has one. I should probably shut it off when leaving for an exttended timeframe, but don't. Several years ago I arrived home from a vacation and flex line running to a water heater had sprung a little pin hole leak. Wasn't disastrous, but a bit of a pain in the arse.

I turn it off at the house

At the camp? Yes. At the house? No

That’s what happened to me. Hot water hose too, so not only did I have to deal with a couple days worth of water flowing, I got the second kick in the nuts when the electric bill came next month. Well pump and water heater running non stop for 2 days isn’t cheap.
I kill power to the well and pop the breaker for the water heater if we’re gone over night now.

From the street? No
The washing machine hoses? Yes, but not lately.

I turn off water to the toilets. I woke up one morning to a flooded bathroom because of a broken part inside the tank.
If its a week or so Ill do same to the washer.

I have that thought too, but haven't done it for a vacation. I did it once for a hurricane evacuation.
So now my ocd will kick in next vacation. If I turn it off at the house should I run the water to drain the lines? What about the 70 gallons in the water heater?

Don’t forget fridge water to dispenser and ice maker, I’ve seen a house flood from that
