No, I need the exercise.

And this morning was a real workout, was low on gas, so I had to run.

Negative. Have about 1.5 acres around my house, mostly flat, which I cut with my Ariens Apex 60. I'm a retired boomer. I enjoy it.

When it was our weekend house in 2012 to 2015 yes, since I didn't want to have to waste that time while I could be doing something else, as soon as we moved here full time I quit paying someone and have done it myself since.

I used to mow. What got me to start paying was edging. I just hate it and my last two houses had sidewalks.

I have 2.5 acres. John Deere basic riding mower, not a zero turn type machine, push mower and a Stihl trimmer. I used to do it all. Had never paid for yard work in 30 years of homeownership. Took a lot of pride in doing everything at my house unless it required contractor-level repairs or maintenance. Hell, a friend and I even put a new roof on one of my houses.

A few summers ago my mower broke down again - steering pinion gear stripped this time. I just I got tired of mowing and/or repairing equipment. I put out a message on our neighborhood Facebook group. Hired a neighbor who mows as a side hustle to do it about every 2 weeks. Charges me $100 per cut. Looks great. Worth it.

With my cancer diagnosis I’m not sure what I’ll be able to do going forward anyway. We’ll see.

Yes 1.6 acres here in palm beach county. Was doing it myself but with 3 kids all being in shite on the weekends and the speed at which it grows I was spending my extra time always cutting. We'll get back to it when my oldest is a little older but it's pretty cheap down here to find decent lawn service.

I've had 3 major surgeries in the past 3 years, thats when I stopped cutting my own yard. Im on the mend now so I will start doing my own yard again, but the problem I also cut my neighbors yard bc he lives alone and is disabled....I dont mind doing it myself or paying someone else to do it bc he also pays me with a bottle of whiskey or bourbon or just Venmos me....It's the weed eating that drives me crazy

My pool is the fricking problem...just when I get it right, it fricking turns on me, my pool is like a bipolar woman with multiple personalities.

Oh please, quit hiding your lowT behind a facade of wealth.
don’t worry about it the jokers dude, the average age of this board is about 60 yo. That’s why so many hire people

Of course a real man handles maintaining his own yard but these old fart smellers are past their prime and done with the sweating now

I can’t climb the slope of the back yard anymore and mom’s 87 soon.

I would gladly take the teens on the offer. We currently pay $60/2-weeks … and he does 5 more neighbors at the same time now. Does a good job but these are 1/3acre lots!!! Dude is pulling 600/month for 2 days work.

I had a dad and 2 kids cutting mine last year. They didn’t come back this spring. I figure ICE got em. Btw, they spoke zero English, had to use the phone to translate with them.

I own two properties that’s really close. I usually cut them myself but I’m getting older (58) with some health problems so about once or twice a summer I’ll pay

Yeah. For the first time in my life honestly, I mowed when I was a kid and at our first 3 houses but we have a 2 acres and a ton of mature landscaping from the previous owner so the weedeating gets wild. I still maintain the trees, weeds and bamboo but I was looking at buying a zero turn before we moved in and the neighbors lawn guy quoted me $70.

I couldn't justify the $140/month vs $7,000 initial cost, fuel and maintaining a mower.

Also I have (3) kids under 6 so 2-3 hours every other weekend is a lot of time for me right now.

As soon as my boy comes of age it'll be his job.

But I did a cost analysis and I figured my time at work is about $60/hr at the end of the year but I enjoy mowing so $35/hr. If it takes me 3 hours every two weeks to do it my cost per year is $2730/year in my labor. The mower would be $7000. I figured $40/month for gas and another $50/year for blades and $20/year for weed eater string.

So my break even is over a decade away. It's the smarter decision financially to have the lawn guy to cut it, I get more time with my kids and I never have to worry about having a shitty yard if it rains a couple of weekends. I like coming home on an random Wednesday or Thursday and it's perfect

How much is your time worth? If you make 35$/hr then it’s worth it. If you make more than it’s not.

Plus you have to buy a lawnmower. And maintain it. And store it. Plus buy all the other lawn equipment. And maintain it. And store it.

You say this as if it’s weird. My grandfathers never would have dreamed of having someone mow their yards, change their oil or hire someone to do something around the house they were capable of doing. I’m the same way. Takes me 30 min and $40 to change my oil vs 30 min and $100 to have someone else change it.

Yeah and our grandfathers also never spent any time with their kids or changed diapers either.

And your grandfathers wife prob didn't work full time so she didn't need help with every day chores
