Why I don’t donate unless to a person I know that needs some help. Everything is such a grift nowadays.

I hope so. They go to help kids at Shriners Childrens Hospitals and feed the less fortunate in my community at our local food bank.

But I'm not auditing their financials. I presume they're independently audited but not certain.

I assume most all donations don't go where you think they are supposed to go (whether you don't understand in the first place or there actually is something shady going on). It's one reason I rarely donate to anything. Too often it feels like a grift.

I donated to St. Jude back in the day since that one is so well established. But outside of that I generally would donate something like my time instead (i.e. I volunteered at the OLOL Children's Hospital for almost ten years).

I think our country has solved hunger. Our poor people are fat.

Yeah, charities, especially Christian charities, (although are there any non-Christian charities?) are all a bunch of scams.

Everybody outside of this way too pro-Jesus Southern message board knows that.

That's part of why I'm an atheist.

Yes, in my pocket because I never donate to anything.

Things to NOT Do List

Go to Mexico City and donate Toilet Paper to folks in a disaster area 7,300 miles and two continents away.

Thanks, had I not watched the video that you posted there was a significant probability that I would have done this exact thing before the end of 2026 if not sooner.

My public accounting career started as an auditor for an accounting firm that had a number of non-profits client. After auditing these financials for several years and seeing what percentage of the revenue, grants, donations went to the actual programs purpose I stopped donating to any charities.

Sure, the books would show percentages in the teens; but they would also get creative with what percentage of salaries and expenses went to those programs vs administrative costs.

I just give it to the poor folks begging on the corner so they can get a good healthy meal and a new suit for their job interview.

Shut up you fricking retard. Dumbass

This is a grown folks' conversation. Take your childish sense of humor to another thread while the adults are discussing a serious topic.

Yup. SPCA is one that i know is really bad. like 90% of their money goes to other things than directly helping animals and shelters. Ads, salaries, office spaces, etc. Just donate to your local shelter. They will appreciate it more.

I'm sure most big orgsanizations like this operate in the same manner.

Some of that is to be expected but it's not reassuring reading your overall view after auditing some nonprofits. Were they very large entities or smaller, local ones?

I do donate to a number of charities.

ALSAC St. Jude Children's Hospital
Gary Sinese Foundation
Smile Train
Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank
Tim Tebow Foundation
Wounded Warrior Project (they have new leadership)
Mercy Ships
and I sponsor 2 kids in South America though Children International

It's not a lot of money monthly, but I thought there were other folks doing it and it would add up. God has blessed us financially and it's wrong for us not to share.
