2 from the same family. One was taken to rehab a few times but wouldn’t stay , the other chose to check out about 15 years later.

Friend of mine's older brother did.

He would buy the whiskey by the case and drink non stop until the paramedics would get him and go pump his stomach.

He was finally found dead on the floor, I think he was about 40 something

Good friend from college. He had it all. Great job and very successful. Made a ton of money. Big house in best area of his city. Married with two college aged kids. But he could never quit drinking even as he went into liver failure, lost his job, got divorced and was essentially homeless. His friends got him into rehab a few times and many tried to help him. In the end, he got some money from a new job, bought booze, and bled out alone in a hotel room in his early 50s. The feeling at his funeral from his family was relief. Quite sad.

Sorta, a friends mom was an alcoholic and quit drinking cold turkey, they went to dinner and she stayed home complaining she wasn't feeling well and she was dead when they got home. She died from Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome.

Back in the 90s I worked with a guy who was on a level of alcoholism I didn’t even know existed. You could literally smell alcohol coming from his pores. By lunchtime he’d have the shakes. But the end of the day he looked like he had Parkinson’s. He’d leave work and go straight to the ABC store and buy 4 or 5 mini vodkas. You’d think someone who was that bad of a drunk would drink half a gallon per night. But he’d got to the point he’d all but pickled himself. He literally could only drink a few miniatures and it would get him blackout drunk.

He eventually came to work too drunk and they fired him. He ended up living in a roach motel on 1st Ave. North in Bham. He died in his room and no one knew he was dead until they started smelling him after a few days.

He was a sad story. He was a nice guy. His life went off the rails when one day he came home from work and found his wife packing up everything they owned, including their kids, in a U-Haul. She was being helped by her new boyfriend, who she told him was moving with her and the kids out of state and that he’d never she her or the kids again. He never got over that and it ended up killing him.

My husband was friends with a guy who had cirrhosis of the liver and he literally drank himself to death. He showed up at our house one day out the blue and our dog did not like him. Our dog loved everyone and was very aggressive towards this guy. I truly felt our dog could smell something bad on him, whether it was impeding death or the cirrhosis.

I sadly know of two people who have. Both did it in their mid-30s. Both drank to the point of organ failure.

Yes, had a good buddy pass earlier this year. His alcoholism just got worse as he got older. He was such a charismatic person, but just couldn't shake his demons. I miss him.

No. There are millions more who drink responsibly- meaning they know when to stop when they start drinking.

With fentanyl- one little speck will kill you

That’s comparing apples to oranges with your example

I knew a couple people who died from liver failure due to excessive drinking. I’ve talked about this many times before but I was almost one of them. Started drinking at 12 and had cirrhosis by 27. That was almost 4 years ago now, and I’m pretty much cured at this point due to no alcohol and living a healthy lifestyle. Still gotta see a gastro twice a year to make sure all is good, but he has told me I’m basically completely cured now.

I do, an army buddy of mine. He was ordered to return fire when they were en route to fallujah in support of the NOV03 operations. The douche bags were firing from an orphanage.

It destroyed my buddy. He sat me down and told me he wanted to die and would drink himself to do it. My buddy was already an alcoholic but had tried to kick it. Looking into his eyes, it was obvious he was not interested in kicking it now.

I begged him to reconsider but he wouldn’t. So I did what army buddy would do, I hugged him, gave him a kiss on his cheek, and ordered a round for us. We talked and carried on like old times. It was the last time I saw SGT Daniel Paul Goetz alive.

He and another army buddy of mine, SGT Joseph Nolan often had shared a drink or ten. Joe caught it in that same operation in Fallujah. I’d like to think Joe was up/down there drinking something far cheaper than what I ordered us that day.

My uncle Herschel. He drank over a gallon of vodka a day.

He was one of my favorite uncles, he was always having fun (obviously, he was always drunk). My family wouldn't let me see him in the weeks before his death, they said I wouldn't like what I'd see.

I never got to say goodbye to him.

High school buddy. Ex LSU football player with chronic pain from a bad hip. Combination of alcohol and NSAIDS destroyed his liver. Before that the alcohol destroyed his family and a great career. Guy came from very humble beginnings, made something if himself and then lost it all.
