TigerPrawn is giving you great info, I can't add much besides seconding what he's saying.

My question is whether your launch point is set in stone. I've been catching a ton of trout inside the marsh this year, but it's deep in the marsh in deep large bayous.

Whether you went to those types of spots or the outter islands, I'm not sure the Point Marina is best this time of year. For me I'd pick Bayou Caddy if you want to get to the islands more easily, Campos or Hopedale for the marsh trips.
Oh really? That's good to hear about the cayenne at least.

It does seem to hold water from the jumpseat to the stern but that's probably more to do with me overloading it with wires.

And yeah, good luck in that region. It's really hard to go wrong there, you can fish all day and never see another boat, it's nice.
Yeah it's a Cayenne! I originally wanted a copperhead but they stopped selling by the time I had saved up enough.

But yeah, I'm the same, I'm never going to get rid of this boat. It's mine through and through and I can bring it basically anywhere from the marsh to small streams, and sometimes the big bays.
Thanks bro. Feels good cracking this code, winter used to be such a pain. Now it's fish in a barrel.
Hey what's up you guys, it has been a long time since I wrote one of these. Anyone who hasn't read one of these, when I started my youtube channel I would post fishing reports here and link to the video. That went a long way to whatever little measure of success my channel has is due in large part to those reports.

I wanted to bring that back because as we all know, a big cold front is coming through and I feel pretty damn confident I have the redfish figured out.

This trip was last Wednesday when the winds finally died down a bit after that arctic blast. I had been exploring the idea that I call temperature gradients. These are areas of small, shallow flats or duck ponds that are connected by or drained by small windy bayous. I call it temperature gradient because these areas combine both deep pockets where the temperature stays stable and flats that can warm (or cool) really fast.

Thus, a gradient. If you have watched my videos lately, this is all I've targeted so far this winter, and I've had only one trip in the last two months where I haven't caught a two-man limit of reds.

And that's how this trip went too. I launched out of Hopedale around 11:30 am and went to a kayak spot first. There were hammer trout there but it was difficult to land them and it was also pretty slow. So after about 20 minutes of that, I left for spot number 2.

I entered from the main bayou where I fan-casted for about 5 minutes as I made my way into a smaller drainage bayou connected to a pretty big, but very shallow pond. As I trolled into the bayou, I moved pretty fast because I wanted to get to that temperature gradient area.

As soon as I got to the last bend of that bayou before the big flat, bam! A 19" red. I kept going until another, this one 18". Then another, then another, then another.

Ultimately this one little bayou gave me 8 redfish, almost all (if not all) over slot, all in less than an hour.

The only other thing to add is lures. Just use lures that are slow, not huge but not small, that can slowly fall to the bottom. I was using the HH Salt Minnow (I'm not sponsored by them) in smoke because that color and profile just do great in the muddy water. But, you may find clean water, and in that case that's another report.

As always with these, you can find the video here: https://youtu.be/ZsIMv1yFpfo

Thanks for reading y'all!

Thanks guys. Yeah I probably don't have the right gear for what's in this river, but I'll still try.

Who knows, maybe I'll figure it out and be able to release a different type of video.

Appreciate y'all. Merry Christmas.

The river we back up to is called the little river. Finally got the address, don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Fishing near Townsend, TN

Hey all, I'm taking the family to Townsend for the New Year and our rental backs up to a river/stream (not sure which one).

I was hoping to do some fishing and was wondering if anyone here has fished that region and what lures/techniques are the best.

My plan is to bring some light tackle and fish with lures I see on some youtubers in North AL. Ned rigs, helgramites, small curly tail grubs.

Anything else I should consider?
Oh man, I should put out a video on this. Probably a lot of what I'll say has already been said so I'll try to focus on the things you need for maintenance which is what you'll be doing a lot of.

What I keep at home
Good electrical pliers
6 guage wire
6 guage butt connectors
Heat shrink tubing
Heat shrink butt connectors 10-16 guage
Heat gun
Water proof battery charger

What I keep on the boat
Voltage tester
Portable car battery jumper
Silicon packets - put these inside of anything you keep in the boat.
Towels with carabiners
Rechargable hand warmers
Portable tool set
Backup trolling motor remote
Backup reels
Snacks that can stay safe to eat for a long time
Inflatable PFDs - Use way less space, just as safe.
Water bags. These use basically no space and get smaller as you drink them, saving lots of space.

I'll stop there, there's so much more. To me the key things besides the big ticket items (gps, trolling motor, etc) is the stuff you need to have to fix things that break while you're out there and the things you have to have without using a ton of space. Space is at a premium on almost all boats, and things break all the time.

Good luck, it's a life changing purchase.

But at least the fishing will be good….

Way too late reply but the fishing would be better with the diversion. That ecosystem, and all the fish that come with it, was built by the river. It builds the habitat for all of the bait that the fish we like to catch feeds on.

Even accounting for corruption, I cannot see any reason why this diversion shouldn't happen. Is it just that Landry and Nungesser are worried their camps won't have direct access to the water?

There's no way a handful of oystermen have this much influence over the entirety of Southeast Louisiana.
I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted.

I've had to watch my MawMaw go through dementia and parkinsons, my PawPaw go through terminal cancer, and my Mom go through ALS.

Not only do I have zero desire to go through any of that myself, but there is absolutely no way I will put my family through that either. People don't see this side of it, but those are not individual diseases. They impact, and in some cases destroy entire families.

Why not let people have dignity?

Yeah, I caught about a million last weekend. I ended up cutting most of them out of my latest video because it would've been over an hour long and maybe only one or two were keepers.

But give it a week or two, all of them will be keepers and I'll be there to scoop em up.

If this isn't something you do often, it's definitely a multi hour (3+) job. Easy to do a cost-benefit analysis on that. Plus throw in you can blame someone else if it fails.

I've had uhaul install hitches on two of my cars and it was just fine. It's the electrical part to me that's really important and I'd rather someone who does it all day do that.
Well the winds kicked up anyway. Guess I'll have to do my day job.

Thanks guys!
Topic says it all. I have the day off tomorrow and the wind hasn't been bad. Was gonna spend my day in the rain if I can get to any of the docks.

Has anyone heard or seen any info? I checked facebook and just see that Rigolets marina has closed, none of the other groups seem to have any info.
Thanks everyone who suggested the threaded hatch cover. The manufacturer suggest this one here:

I really didn't need to be worried about the structural side of this, after cutting the hole in the deck I learned the fiberglass is about 1.5" thick. Wish I would've known, I would've gone with a different hatch and had a lot of new storage.

This gave me access to the back of the hull where I found the nut that came off and was able to unscrew the other nut by hand. The manufacturer said it was sealed with 5200 and there's absolutely no way they had that on there but no worries, it's fixed now.

Here it is before I repair the gelcoat. Nice and secure.

Yeah I'm going with a 4". I guess I'll make a video showing the progress.

Now that I did all the epoxy layers on the original repair tries I also gotta clean all of that.

I've fixed and changed so many things I don't think you can say this is the same boat I purchased in 2021.
Yep, that's also what the original manufacturer said.

They also said the bolts were 2.5" long and the one coming out of the hull is maybe an inch long. So this thing snapped.

I'll be installing a 4" hatch that I can use to store lines. Not a bad deal in the end.
That's a really good idea, I didn't know they made those. Edit - I didn't know they were called that. I see now, I just need to understand if they can hold my weight up there.

Thanks y'all! I will be towing with this ugly repair tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. If I can make it pretty I'm fine with it but obviously would prefer doing it the right way if I can.
Yeah. I am gonna make it work for now but likely what I'll have to do is cut the whole thing out and like you said, re-mount it.

But that's tomorrow's problem, for now I'll just back the trailer in a little deeper when loading up and use the wench just for keeping the bow attached to the trailer.

I mean I'd be lying if my goal wasn't to be something like that. Now I just need to find that window between work schedule and weather to go put out another video.

Thanks for watching them man!
