I mean, she isn't going around trying to sell it, just making sure her region has what it needs. Tobacco companies don't really NEED salesmen
That's what their sales people do.

I’m originally from Winston Salem. My old man worked as a mechanic for RJ Reynolds for 30 plus years. He never smoked a cigarette though.

I used to audit tobacco taxes for the state for 3 years. Was offered an office manager job in NOLA but turned it down, good people just not the career path I wanted.

It’s highly regional. Phillip Morris had manufacturing here in Louisville until the early 00s.

I guess being a tobacco executive isn't advertised very well.

C suite denizens are going to be limited to a fairly small geographic area, even before the mergers it was primarily NC and VA. PMI and Altria execs probably don't announce their position on a bullhorn when they travel.

I've dealt with them over the years as clients and back 30 years ago you would meet them in their smoke-filled offices and board rooms today their offices are as sterile as any other industry.

I worked with someone 20 years ago who is now the CEO of a tobacco company. They lost their job when I worked with them because they were lying (a lot) on their travel and entertainment expense reimbursements.

I never met him, but my great uncle was some sort of tobacco scientists in the 50s and 60s. Even came to the US to give lectures about his methods at several universities.

Except for minimal quality control testing, he never smoked, his wife never smoked, and his daughter smoked, but was by no means a heavy smoker by even today’s standards.

A long time ago, when I was a newly minted attorney, I was counsel at a tobacco jury trial where Jeffrey Wigand (Russel Crowe's character) testified. I wrote his cross examination outline, though a more senior attorney performed the cross.

Much of The Insider is wild hyperbole.

Grandfather and uncle grew tobacco, went to hs w lots of ppl that farmed. I worked harvesting tobacco for 6 yrs in 80s. Great monet, paid for college before I even got to campus.
Govt bought out farmers in Ontario in 90s, farming almost died off. First nations now make cigarettes on reserves and need tobacco. So industry is reborn, not the money there was before but farmers are doing ok. I never smoked, my parents both did but quit in their 50s. I have mixed feelings on tobacco, my dad's side of family came from western NC and have grown tobacco since the 1800s. None farming now though

I sell a packaging item to a smokeless tobacco company. It’s like going back in time. There are ash trays everywhere in their plant. You can smoke anywhere there.

I dunno what that position is called. She wasn't like delivery, had to dress nicely for work every day, had a company vehicle, and basically drove all day long.

Probably sales rep or something. I have a friend who worked for Gillette and pretty much did the same thing. He had a region on Southwest Louisiana and had to go to places, mostly walmarts, that sold Gillette products.

Sometimes he would have to go to a location and do promos were he just handed out free shite for 2 hrs. He would drive 3 hrs to do a 2hr promo then drive back.. 8 hrs of work, 6 of them on the road.

He liked what he was doing, but they were changing how they do the sales and wanted him to move to KC. But they paid for a vehicle, cell phone, etc..

FYI there is a sharp distinction between PhilipMorrisUSA(PMUSA) and PhilipMorris International (PMI). PMI owns SwedishMatch which is the manufacturer of ZYN

FIL used to farm it and I have had the privilege of being in on some the field work and harvest process here in central Ky. Not too many folks grow it around here anymore, at least not like 20 years ago.

Knew a guy that filled cigarette machines at bars. Does that count? Made pretty good money back in the day.

Knew a guy in college who was one of those dudes who would go to bars, check your ID, and give you 2 free packs of camels. Him and another guy would show up to house parties with backpacks full, tossing cartons like this
