These teachers threads may start differently, but they all evolve into the same thing. See you again tomorrow.

If you look at hours teachers work 35 on the clock hours (7 hour school days) yet many schools require teachers to be at work 30 minutes early. Then if they're like me because my 40 minutes of planning I have other stuff to do, I stay an hour or two after work to get papers graded, print papers I need for the next day, and prepare. Is it hard? Not at all but it is something I'm required to do. Plus I have to attend a two-week in-service during the summer that I get a 500$ bonus for during my 30 hours I have to do.

Are you my wife?

Seriously, you sound just like my wife. She gets to school at 6:30am and stays until 4-5:30pm depending on their faculty meetings that they have 2-3 times per week. Then she gets home and has to prepare lesson plans for the next week as well as grading assignments. Also just like you she has a minimum of 30-40 hours of required training over the summer. Does she make decent money? Yes, but no where near what the OP reported per hour.

We have faculty meeting before school but I arrive at 6:30 (required for 7:20) for school.that doesn't start till 8:20.
I do not grade at home but I'll stay late 2-3 days a week (never a Friday) to grade that takes me an hour or two.

TEA is pretty explicit on how much time teachers are required to have for planning, lunch, etc. With that said, a lot of the principals get away with the required meetings by classifying them differently. You can report it anonymously and hope something happens to correct it, you can suck it up, or you report it with you name on it and take the repercussions for being a snitch.

In my experience the really truly great teachers don't act this way.

100% accurate

But a ton of them do

Which is indicative of the lack of truly great teachers

Every teacher in the country knew the pay scale when they decided to take the job. If you dont like it, quit, someone else will be glad to waste all day on shite work and send home 3 hours of homework for the parents to figure out.

And yes, I know quite a few that work in the summers. And most of them seem to be real good teachers.

You are correct we all knew the pay scale, yet when more work is added each year and we get no bonuses, and a raise of only 100 bucks a year it starts to add up.

Imagine your job where you performed above others yet you all got the same raise each year and each year you were asked to do more than the year before. Plus you pay for work supplies put of your pocket.

The teacher I know does typically work a second job during the summers.. usually as a waitress or some summer school tutoring.
