I never understand why teachers grade papers at home. Make shite multiple choice and run it through the scantron machine.

For writing assignments like grading essays, grade them in class while the students have a reading assignment or something.

If teachers are bringing home papers to grade everyday, they are assigning too much work and not doing enough teaching.

My understanding is that teachers have a choice - get more per check, but only get paid while school is in, or get less per check and spread it out year-round.

My grandfather was a teacher and later principal from the 1950's through the 1970's. I know he worked second jobs during the summer months, including selling encyclopedias, gas pumper, and worked at Sears. Gotta do what you gotta do to pay dem bills.

My girlfriend works at a women's gym on top of teaching. It's great, because she also gets paid while she's working out. Keeping that body tight

I know a guy who teaches HS math, has a night job where he works 2-3 hours doing maintenance type work, and paints houses during the summer. He's also a volunteer softball coach.

In every thread you act like this is exclusive to teachers. The difference is everybody does that, but when teachers do it it gets them ALMOST to the regular workday of everyone else.

I notice you didn't even bother addressing the content and instead just went to the insults. You've lost before you've started.

I know plenty of teachers who have a second job, I work during the summer as well.

So yes many teachers work a lot of hours, yes many teachers have a second, yes many teachers are women and they complain.

If you look at hours teachers work 35 on the clock hours (7 hour school days) yet many schools require teachers to be at work 30 minutes early. Then if they're like me because my 40 minutes of planning I have other stuff to do, I stay an hour or two after work to get papers graded, print papers I need for the next day, and prepare. Is it hard? Not at all but it is something I'm required to do. Plus I have to attend a two-week in-service during the summer that I get a 500$ bonus for during my 30 hours I have to do.

I don't think any Parish in Louisiana does this anymore, it is all spread out over 12 months now

When I was a gunnery instructor at Ft. Knox in the 90s I had a school teacher come though who’d joined the national guard as a second job. I remember he was a lot older than the other recruits.

Back when I went to school (60,70, 80's) there were many male teachers, and most worked summer jobs.
