The best way is based on how students grades + test scores + behavior improved from year to year. The issue is some teachers will avoid certain grades/discipline because they will thing it means a raise

This is a terrible way to judge things, for the very reason you mentioned. It's bad enough with barely any kids failing due to school funding being tied to failure rates and admin dogging teachers, it'd be even worse if you paid teachers for giving good grades.

You can’t ask kindergartens to rate their teachers. That probably wouldn’t work even reasonably well until middle school at best.

Understood. I teach middle school, and I know that implementing this 7-12 would be real and viable.

always said teachers should get raises based on preformance. I was told there's no way to evaluate teachers.

They do that in Dallas now and it will be rolled out statewide soon. But all that is taught in Dallas now is the test. The in person evaluations are done once or twice a year for about 30 minutes by someone that doesn't work at the school which is not enough observation time to make a valid evaluation. Its basically a system rigged to not give teachers a raise.

You are correct we all knew the pay scale, yet when more work is added each year and we get no bonuses, and a raise of only 100 bucks a year it starts to add up.

Imagine your job where you performed above others yet you all got the same raise each year and each year you were asked to do more than the year before. Plus you pay for work supplies put of your pocket.

Did you sign a contract with the school you work for? If not find a job that gives raises and doesn’t expect you to spend your own money on their supplies. There I imagined your life and gave you a solution.

I have two in my family. One works a second job year-round. Average hours are 7am-6:30pm Monday-Thursday and 7am-4pm Friday. Papers and prep Sunday usually takes three hours, done before and after dinner. 14 weeks off leaves 38 weeks of said hours. 2,204 hours worked. One week of clean up after vacation, two weeks of room prep for the year, 120 more hours brings it to 2,324 per year vs 2,080 for a standard job. 13th year teacher in my area varies by county, 53,000 and 56,000 according to their posted salary schedules. So a 4 year degree, plus 13 years experience here nets them $23.45/hr roughly.

You need to go after the crap teachers, administration, and school boards.

You know for a fact that half the teachers on strike in the last few weeks are dragging the system down. Yet, the good teachers just march right beside em.
