I worked midnights for most of my career. I was coming home and going to bed just an hour or two before my wife was getting up to get ready for work. So we started sleeping in different rooms just as a matter of schedule.

Seems like that would be optimum time for sex.

Why the frick would you let your mother in law live with you? that is something I'll never agree to

I have a separate account set up to pay for an old folks home for one of my in laws, just in case I am put into a similar situation.

I've always slept better on couches. I like tight areas to sleep in for some reason

My mind is blown. I legit thought separate beds were pretty much a made up for TV/movie thing, much less separate bedrooms! Been married almost 29 years… Also not a thing with our parents or any friends either unless they are hiding it. Reading this thread has to be deceiving. No way are we in the minority here.

I’m shocked as well. Prior to retirement, I slept terrible when my wife or I were on business trips. We’ve been married 33 years and have always slept in the same bed even when one of us had the flu or something.

My wife and I sleep separately and have for about five years now. I’m an extremely light sleeper and she is up and down several times a night. Plus she goes to sleep before I do.

Same. It’s been about 3 years for us. My wife is a pretty loud snorer and I’m a light sleeper. It’s been fine. Occasionally we’ll share a bed and eventually realize neither of us sleep well as a result, so we just eventually move back to sleeping separately.

I have for the last several months when my kid is away for college. She has restless leg and some nights she squirms so much it keeps waking me up. When the kids are all home im back in the bed with the Jimmy legs.

My grandparents did it.

I have suggested it to the wife but she is not ready yet.

My ex slept on the couch watching TV the last 3 years of our marriage. Said she couldn’t go to sleep without it.

I think this is mostly an old couple thing. Both sets of grandparents did this as early as I could remember. My parents do not.

I barely get it enough as it is and we definitely share a bed and have no plans not to.
I wouldn't push it, because I'd get it even less if I did.

Has anybody discussed couples where one spouse works a typical day shift Monday through Friday and the other works an opposite night shift working every other weekend?

This means the night shift (6p-6a) works a Monday/Tuesday, off Wednesday/Thursday before working Friday, sat, sun.

Off Monday/Tuesday work wed/thurs and then off Fri-sun

I sleep like a kid on Christmas Eve. I have to sleep alone with white noise device on. Plus, wife snores pretty good. I just can't sleep well with someone in the room.

My grandmother and grandad slept on 2 twin beds next to each other in their bedroom in what was basically a shotgun shack my entire childhood. Looking back I can't believe they slept that way. My grandad also made breakfast and left the house by 330 every morning to go work as a lineman.

I'm a fricking soft arse pussy who rolls out of bed and goes to work at a computer 15 feet away every day.

We really are a fricking spoiled nation.
