The only two couples that I have known to do it are now divorced…

I was enjoying a glass of wine with a friend recently and mentioned to her that my wife and I are now sleeping in separate bedrooms.

She said, "Interesting", took a few sips, and added, "so what does your wife do when she wants to have sex?" I told her, "She whistles."

A few moments went by and she followed up with, "And what do you do when you want to have sex?"

“I go to her door and ask if she whistled."

My next door neighbor had a 2nd walk in closet built in his Master bedroom when he had his house renovated. In it he has a twin bed with a little shelf. It also has separate access to the bathroom. It’s like George Constanza’s desk-bed and he jokes that he comes out of the closet to have sex with his wife every Saturday night.

It’s very common especially as you get older. When you’re young it sounds crazy

Well, there's not much sex going on in marriage so why not get more quality sleep?

The reason married people resist separate bedrooms is because it's the final admission that their marriage is no longer a sexual relationship.
It's coming to terms with the fact that they are just two people trying to raise kids and pay bills without killing each other.

After reading these responses, I feel very blessed. My wife and I are best friends. She would rather spend time with me than anyone else and vice versa. We don’t complain about each other, we are a team that raised three kids and are now being challenged with the live in MIL. Sleeping in the same bed is not all about sex, it is being together. I enjoy when she is cold in the middle of the night and puts her feet on me. I enjoy reaching over and putting my arm around her. Our bedroom, like everything else, is something we share. I snore, she kicks the covers off and pushes me away to the edge of the bed, she then bundles up and puts her feet on me, she wakes up and reads in the middle of the night, I get uncomfortable and move around a lot, etc. but we are always together. Describing marriage as coexisting sounds awful and reversible if both parties are willing.

During the week my wife sleeps in our bed with my daughter and the dogs. They’re both light sleepers. They take turns letting the dogs out every other night. I sleep in the bed with my son with a thunderstorm sleep video playing on YouTube. I snore loudly and he grinds his teeth in his sleep half the night. Wife and I sleep in the same bed on Friday and Saturday night but rarely ever during the week.

Unfortunately, I think I'm headed that way unless I can get my loud arse snoring under control. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. She's a crazy light sleeper and I saw logs, apparently.

A lot of my friends apparently snore so their wives have tossed them

My wife of 21 years is an extremely light sleeper. I sleep like a rock and snore so we sleep in separate rooms.

Me and my wife get along fine but half the time she’ll pass out on the couch before I even get out of my recliner. I get to then walk to the bedroom and sleep with the fan on full blast. No complaints

Love my wife but don’t get this at all. If my wife liked all the hobbies and things me and my friends like to do I’m not sure I could love her.

I knew a couple that would start in the same bed. Once the snoring started, the wife would move to her bed. Then early in the morning when it is easy to fall asleep, she would crawl back into the first bed.

If your wife doesn't like college football and baseball, then you chose poorly.

When it comes to TV, movies, vacations, and family, my wife and I are best friends.

The fact that an incidental leg brush in the middle of the night or morning turns to sex is another highlight in a life of highlights.

My statement was sort of tongue in cheek but regardless my wife is a lot of things to me and our marriage but I just don’t put “best friends” as a super high priority. But all good if you do.
