My in-laws did for the last 25 years of my FIL’s life. He was a saint to put up with her. He did everything around the house and waited on her hand and foot. She eventually decided he would sleep more comfortably in his own bedroom since she liked to watch tv all night. She lives with us now and I don’t know he survived as long as he did. Regardless of her faults, that always seemed very odd to me.

My wife mentioned today that another couple we know have separate bedrooms. They are older and don’t get along, but again, that seems so weird. He had a health scare a while back and she acted like she was about tio lose her life long love, and yet they don’t share a bedroom.

A lot of my friends apparently snore so their wives have tossed them

My wife and I sleep separately and have for about five years now. I’m an extremely light sleeper and she is up and down several times a night.

Plus she goes to sleep before I do.

Yes, it is surprisingly common. Most of the time it boils down to one or the other snores or something like that. When you get right down to it, very few things are as important as getting a decent night’s sleep

As long as a conjugal visit is acceptable a few times a week, I could see it working out just fine!

I think it's odd that you concern yourself so much with the sleeping habits of others that you made an entire thread about it on an LSU sports message board and therein subtly denigrated your own family members, one of whom is no longer with us.

This thread is not going to go the way you thought it would...

I've been married to this woman and sleeping the same bed for 32 years *38 years if you count living in sin prior to marriage.". If we wanted to do separate beds it would be zero drama. You get old and you start waking up during the night and pissing and what not and you worry you're waking them up. Snoring notwithstanding. That shite's a menace.

Because his wife who I presume is a lovely woman wears the proverbial CrappyPants in the household.

Im divorced but if I ever get married again, or am ever in a cohabitation situation again- ill probably suggest separate bedrooms.. To me the only thing as important as a good night's sleep- is keeping things spicy in the bedroom.. in my experience it's far hotter to "visit" each other a few times a week, than to sleep next to each other , smell each other's morning breath, deal with snoring, unwelcome gross sounds/noises etc... I honestly think many couples would sleep in separate bedrooms if they didnt care so much about what other people think, much like the OP's sentiment that it's "weird".. Then again, ive known married couples who literally go to the bathroom in front of each other with the door open, so apparently many couples dont give a shite about maintaining any sort of "mystery" in the relationship, especially if they have kids .. I guess we all prioritize different things .

My older young child has been forcing this on me and my wife for about two years now.

But my wife likes to wake up at 4AM and is perimenopausal so it averages out with the weekly bootycalls

My wife and i do. When i eventually step out on her, it'll be her fault. She's overall unbearable anyway. Im not missing out.

I’m trapped in this bed with a woman who wakes up at all hours and gets on her phone, while her dog licks his arse every morning at 4 am. I’m looking forward to my own bed when the kids move out.

My dad had a bad back and couldn't lie flat. He slept in his recliner in the den

It’s one of the great joys of being an empty nester. Sleeping in separate rooms doesn’t mean there’s no sex, it just means that both can sleep with less interruptions from the other.

Know any? No.

Heard of it and I am sure some of the couples we know do.

All I know is that when I am sick and go into another bedroom in our house, we both sleep better.
