Inheritance??

I would say there is an 80 percent chance or higher that my mother will end up having to live with us at some point, because she will be out of money and needing medical care.

She does own a house free and clear (which she inherited) which I'm sure at some point we will need to sell to pay for her care and expenses.

My father is in a bit better shape financially, however, I'm not expecting much there either. I'll be happy if there is enough to cover his final expenses.

My grandfather has "some" money, but I expect that my father will keep all of it when grandpa dies. I'm not expecting to see any of that cheddar, either.

Edited to add about the wife, not expecting a tremendous amount for her parents, but there will likely be something for her and her two sisters to split. There will be a house probably valued around 200K, no debt, probably not a lot of cash, and I have no idea about life insurance.

No because my parents have made it well known that they are spending all their money on helping the poor. I mean how do you complain about that?

Plans can change in a hurry. The stock market can go down for example, or health care costs can eat up much of one’s savings. The cheapest nursing homes start at $9,000 per month. It wouldn’t take long at all to go through several hundred thousand dollars.

Hell I wish I was even that lucky. I've been out there a few times, not in any of the big oil plays unfortunately. Too far from that area to even build an RV park.

We will get a good bit of property and some money, not sure how much. But, I hope that’s gonna be awhile. We have made our future plans for retirement without counting inheritance. So, anything we get will be a bonus and not something we have been counting on to get by.

My kids stand to inherit a good bit when we pass, but my wife and I are gifting them a nice chunk each year to help them get started. They all are responsible, have good degrees and good jobs and they could use the help now rather than 30 years from now when they don’t need it. When my parents pass, my siblings and I will get a few hundred thousand each but it won’t change any of our lives.

My wife inherited her grandparents home which we been living in for 4 years. It was a blessing two years ago when I was laid off. Not having to pay that rent or a monthly note us awesome. Just have to remember about property taxes, which I forgot about this year until I was reminded with a letter from the parish today. Yikes they stack on interest payments quick.

I expect a nasty letter meant to induce an existential crisis and a box of photos at best. At worst, I can’t even imagine.
