Do You Feel Like Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize Was Deserved? Or a Political Stunt?

The Nobel committee cites Obama's promotion of nuclear nonproliferation and a "new climate" in international relations, especially in reaching out to the Muslim world as the reasons for bestowing upon him the high honor in 2009.

At this point he was only president for a year; I doubt that gives him much time, in addition to his other duties, to advocate for world peace in such a way to garner this recognition.

Do you feel like this was a political move because he was half African American? I have a hard time believing a white POTUS would be honored in the same way for such a short amount of time.

I think they gave it to him for his administration's future drone strikes on innocent civilians.

It is debatable to say that discussing the worthiness or lack thereof for a Nobel Peace Prize belongs on the OT or not. I can think of equal # of reasons for yes it does and no it doesn't/

Political stunt all the way.

He got it because he was the first black president.

Pretty funny considering he enriched a rogue state in Iran that wants nuclear weapons and is currently developing them.

And also pretty funny as well considering that he bombed the ever living frick out of muslims nations and destabilized them.

No, let it stay here. It's fun to see the cage door open from time to time.

Pretty funny considering you can't even walk through that cage door as IIRC, you're still banned from the poliboard.

I always thought of it as an effort to push policy toward a more peaceful path following eight years of Bush warfare. And the Obama administration did have an international humanitarian element. Maybe the Committee accomplished its goal, maybe not.
