what do you think fermented grapes means? They are spoiled, gone-bad, rotten. It’s called,”noble rot”.
Fermentation and rotting aren't the same process. Wine is made by yeast fermenting the sugars in healthy grapes into alcohol. "Noble rot" is something different—it's a specific fungal infection (Botrytis cinerea) that's intentionally used for certain sweet wines like Sauternes and Tokaji. Most wines are not made from "rotten" grapes, and fermented grapes aren't simply gone bad.

Oral is way up there

Probably done by some pre human hominids that didn't really think about hygiene.

Chimpanzees and bonobos have been observed doing it, as well as goats and sheep.

I want to know what the first person who saw the Grand Canyon thought,

Some of the wonders of the American west are fairly recent discoveries outside of ancient Indian tribes who would have ascribed it to one of their Gods.

You can read descriptions of some of the first European visits John Colter was the first white man to visit and document what is now Yellowstone in the early 1800s, and the Jayden survey of the 1870s was the first to map and bring back proof of some of the geological features.

I believe the first European to see the Grand Canyon in as a Spanish conquistador in the 1500s and there may be records of first impressions there. There are certainly diaries from the John Wesley Powell expedition of the 1870s.

Probably being thirsty and watching calves drink it.

When I was a kid it dawned on me that we know what berries and mushrooms are poisonous probably due to trial and error.

Yup, I think about the History of Foods quite a bit. For example, poke sallet, Like who was the first redneck that decided after being poisoned by eating poke weed that if I boil, drain, and squeeze the leaves not once, not twice but three times, it won’t make me sick. That takes a lot of dedication and belief in your hungry-arse self.

Or the first Chinese guy who came across a bunch of eggs, caked in alkaline mud for months and decided, “Im’ma eat one of those.”

Crawfish are way more regular looking food than oysters or clams or scallops. Mainly because moving and resembles other edible life forms.

I agree with a poster earlier in the thread that the first person to eat an oyster must have seen an otter or similar sea mammal crack one open and eat it, and I’m sure glad they did.

Another thing I wonder, who was the first person to domesticate and ride a horse? He must have been an absolute legend, riding into the neighboring camp

I grew up with a kid that smoked rolled up pieces of brown paper grocery bags. He tried to convince us other kids it was cool. Glad I didn't fall for that.
