Indeed. My wife, myself and probably a few kids would be dead 150+ yrs ago had it not been for us living in a time with modern medicine

I love the people who like to wax nostalgic and claim they'd be happier living in the 1800's because life was much simpler.
They are out of their minds to make that claim. Day to day living back then was pretty much an all day, everyday job. You want fresh vegetables, grow them. You like a good cut of meat, raise it or hunt it, butcher it and do your best to preserve it until it's used up.
Your clothes are dirty-----grab the washboard, boil some water, break out the lye soap and get to scrubbing.
You're hot----sweat. You're cold-----cut more wood and build a bigger fire.
Hell, the advances in medicine and medical practices alone make this era heads above what it was just 50 years ago.
Like most have already stated, the creature comforts alone make living today a blessing.

I do, but most of the time I don't need to go that far back. At one point in my life I was living on the floor of a shack with nothing but a couple of comforters stacked upon each other on a 1970s shag carpet for a bed.
I now have a clean and pest-free home, a big and comfortable bed, A/C, a comfy recliner, a big television, a fridge full of food, hot and cold running water, a reliable ride, a good job with good pay and an amazing wife.
There are always things to gripe about (people driving slow in the left lane, people who let their kids run wild in restaurants, etc), but even when those issues present themselves, I can't help but compare them to the blessings I have and it helps keep things in perspective.

Join the Army, give up all your freedoms while you’re in Basic and OCS/AIT and you’ll never take the simple shite for granted again. One of the things I miss the most is being able to walk around barefoot.

Just a hundred years ago, people were dying of polio and smallpox left and right, and it was only 150 years ago that word got out that microbes existed and that they caused disease.
