When somebody requests to work from home, I just assume they're asking for approval to steal company time. It is what it is.

People like yourself make me ashamed to be part of Gen X… Cannot wait for this type of old school thinking to die off, it honestly makes you sound like you are 90 years old and out of touch .

I'm a millennial. I just know how folks act. My favorite is when they request to wFh when they have sick small kids.

I got small kids. You can't get any work done with a 2 and 3 year old running around. It's a farce.

Do you have no way of keeping track of work production from your subordinates? If they don’t work, hold them accountable.

People who insist that their employees work from an office are just lazy managers. Would my job be easier with all of my employees working under the same roof as me? Definitely. Would I have lower quality workers as well? Also, yes definitely.

ETA: this is for jobs that can 100% be worked remotely, obviously that isn’t the case for every job.

I am a program manager for a $40 million project. And am hybrid. And it has been said by others but my job is to bring shareholder value and winning future business by providing a quality widget at cost for my customer.

I pay taxes and don't drive in front of you during rush hour. Might not be finding the cure for cancer but I'm doing my part to not be a drain on society.

Every blue collar job would simply come to a hault without the CPA running your accounting department.

OP is definitely trolling

I work with large amounts of data that allow ports to continue operating, so your wife can get all her shipments in from China on time, and many on this board to keep their boats from running aground. I don't have a company office within 500 miles of my home.

You and SFP both using the same, "WFH rules because it's cool and if you can't see that you're a geezer" argument.

Fully true. Even in 100% in the office, most people don't know how to manage different personalities to get the most out of them. Remote or not, there are some people that can be coached up, and there are some that need to be redirected elsewhere to hit max potential. But that's a hard conversation, which nobody wants to have. If I have 5 people on a team, I have to make the effort to communicate to all the things that hit them differently. Some people like micro management and panic without it. Others need commander's intent and a budget, and FTW. I never get to choose who I work with, but I get to figure it out.

Most jobs can be done remotely, thanks cloud. Even call center jobs were being done from home in the 90s, probably because ridiculous amounts of statistics could be generated about hold time, wait time, wrap up, etc., and could be collated to make management feel comfortable.

Re: your comment on lower quality workers, this is a burning fact. Smart people recognize that moving to say, Chicago for a job, in order to spend all day in Teams meetings, including people that sit 40 yards from you, is moronic shite. There's a bank I love in San Antonio that has InfoSec jobs open for months on end, because there is zero flexibility on hybrid. Buuut, it's San Antonio. They have brick and mortar locations in DFW, but corporate functions apparently have to be in SA. Well, bye. Your potential hiring pool for tech is now limited to Asians with no choice, ex Air Force that knocked someone up in basic, or near-retirees that live in the area.

People always forget their power of choice and opportunity.

You can choose to find another opportunity if you don't like it.

Last night around midnight I prevented Indians from accidentally taking down the wifi of about 40 cancer treatment centers in Texas.
