This is not really answering the question of the OP, but it does show that the purchasing power of $100 varies. AI: “ A hundred dollars isn't what it used to be, but losing a hundred-dollar bill will still ruin most people's afternoon.”

Do People Still Consider $100 a Lot of Money?

Im not sure if id say "a lot"- I still consider $100 usd a decent amount of money, but only b/c I left America with its psychotically high cost of living and relocated to low COL Southeast Asia..... So now im used to paying Asian prices for things, and what I used to consider "normal", like dropping $150 usd on a nice dinner, or $1200 on some new tires for my ride- now seems way outta wack.. Right now it's Saturday afternoon; earlier today for my lunch I ordered this big spread of awesome Thai food delivered to my door via their version of Doordash/Ubereats for $4 usd, inc tax tip and delivery fees... That's not a typo , $4 usd .. Luckily I average walking 12k-13k steps per day, every day of my life here.. or even with the fresh, affordable, delicious food- id be as big as a house .

I wondered that myself because the standard gift for nieces and nephews for many years has been $100 (whether in cash or a gift). I wonder if today’s kids look at that $100 bill like we looked at a $5 bill from our grandparents.

$100 to me still feels like a lot when I spend it, but definitely doesn’t feel like a lot when I’m making it.

In years past I would occasionally tip a waitress or bartender with a 20. A few months ago driving to Atlanta I stopped at a Waffle House in Birmingham and got treated excellently, so tipped the staff of five with a C-note each.

Otherwise, I compare the cost of generic groceries and buy store brands and $1.50 cola 2 liters cause I can't tell it's not Coke.

I did recently buy a Porsche and paid for it with $100 dollar bills. A tank of 93 octane costs over $100.

$100 is weird to me personally, and I imagine others have similar experiences, because as an older kid that was our Christmas present budget, so it seemed like a LOT of money.

When I used to play poker and was either betting or deciding to call $1000+ amounts, sometimes I would think about how little $100 was to me now

I'll say this, spending $100 in a tactile way (cash, casino chips, etc.) makes it feel like a lot more money than spending $100 with a card (and even less using a card online)
