re: Do People Still Consider $100 a Lot of Money?

A few years ago I wanted to break a $100 bill at a gas station. I asked the cashier if that would be a problem and she replied “ Honey, that's no problem. Today’s $100 is yesterday’s $20”. Sad but true.

If you grew up poor as I did , no matter how money you have...a 100 dollars is still alot of money

The cleaning ladies at hotels where I stay still seem to appreciate $100 bills. Small price to pay each day to not worry about them rummaging through my stuff when they clean.

If your'e frugal with your money you can stretch 100 dollars to cover gas and groceries for a week these days maybe with a little to spare. If you dine out often even for lunch 100 dollars seems to evaporate within a couple days.

Strippers still seem to get excited about it.

I thought I lost $87 the other day. It irked me enough to think of the most likely places I would have dropped it. But not enough to go start the car to go look for it.
Turns out it was still in the previous days pants. More of a relief that I’m not becoming a retard than the financial aspect.

New windows are expensive.
However, my electricity bill dropped over $140 in the first month since they were put in.
We just spent an additional $1,300 to put mirror window tint on them. It blocks 95% of UV light and you can't see through them during the day. It's awesome.
Unfortunately it doesn't work at night when you have lights on.

Somebody who knows what they're doing can eat for a month on $100. Or you can stuff it in a strippers G string and its gone in ten seconds. If you value it then it can absolutely still be a lot of money. If you don't value it then its just a piece of paper.

It’s not nothing. Dinner was $110 last night.

Yes. You can do a lot with $100.

I still feel it's a lot of money, but I also know it isn't worth much.

If I saw a cnote on the ground i would not pick it up w/o latex gloves.
$100 is not worth dying for.

I’m thinking soon the $500 bill will make a comeback

Great OT response my friend.

This actually happened to me the other day. I was bending down to pick up a plastic bag on the sidewalk to throw in the trash and there was a crisp 100 dollar bill next to it. No way I could figure out how to return it to whoever lost it so it's in my wallet now.

It’s a lot if you need 100 bucks

Coach Ditka is said to have dropped $100 bills left and right when in NY doing TV work.
From a Twitter post:
Jim Nantz says Mike Ditka used to pay and tip for everything with $100 bills, and never ask for change
“I noticed early on that all he carried were $100 bills. All he did was peel off hundreds all the time. Buy a beer at the bar on the way out to dinner, ‘Yeah, give me a Budweiser.’ $100. Keep the change.”
“Coat check, comes into a restaurant, comes out, $100. Man on the street, homeless, there was one guy that kind of understood the routine and he was there every week. Mike, every time, $100 bill.”
“I finally got up the nerve to say, ‘Hey coach, why don’t you ever get change? Why just the hundreds?’ He says, ‘Hey, what’s the difference anyway?’”
“He said, ‘You know, the way I look at it, when I die and they drop me down into the ground, I hope there’s a little opening in that coffin and my last $100 bill comes flying out and goes up into the sky and drifts away. That would make me happy.’”
“So I said, ‘This gets a little pricey, doesn’t it?’ ‘It’s not that bad, Jim.’ He said, ‘Here’s the way I rationalize it in my head. We got 20 weeks. I come every single Friday to New York. I come in with 50 $100 bills, $5,000. And at the end of the season, I’m spending $100,000.’”
“He would say, ‘I’ve allocated $100,000 to the football season to go enjoy myself in New York. And that’s the way it is.’ I take $5,000 in cash in hundreds every single week. And that’s what he did.”

I just dropped $200 for a few Cuban cigars and the only thing my wife said was that she wished I had told her. We are on the other side of raising two kids which has changed our relationship with money. With a mortgage paid off, no car payment, and in position to pay for house renovations with cash, I don’t view cash in the same way I did 5 years ago. We usually round up to the nearest 20 after figuring out the tip regardless of whether it means an extra $2 or $5. A $100 meal is a monthly thing rather than a couple times a year thing. A few days before dropping that $200, I dropped a G on a few boxes of cigars.
So no, I don’t view $100 like I did a decade ago. I’m literally smoking a c-note a week. One of my friends asked if I was driving to Florida and then noted my snooty response when I reminded him we were taking the company jet. Same thing when I was complaining about being “stuck” in Aspen for two extra days in September. I have gone from lower-middle and my wife has gone from dirt poor growing up in an old gas station to upper-middle class. I would give it all up to be able to go back in time and prevent my youngest from suffering a TBI.

Easy to do when you have Ditka's money.
I still view $100 as a lot of money when I go to spend it.
