re: Do masks really work?

Of course they do
They don’t prevent every infection but it’s enough to prevent some.
There are some studies that show that wearers make themselves more vulnerable because they are constantly touching their mask and adjusting/removing it.

All this nonsense about masks not working is equivalent to saying we shouldn’t wash our hands because it doesn’t kill every single bacteria or virus on the surface of our hands or prevent every infection.
nah. You are trying to create a strawman.
The government shouldn't be dictating behavior like this if it doesn't significantly help. There is definitely a huge negative psychological impact to people wearing masks.

Shall I repeat 8 pages of the thread for you?
No, you simply can point out what exactly I've stated that is wrong. And be specific about it.

I don’t deny that masks can partially mitigate transfer of illnesses. My problem is that we don’t want or need this to slow down anymore. We are to the point where we can go back to normal except for the vulnerable groups. The hospitals are not at risk. And if we drag this out too long, we hit August and September and not enough people will be exposed prior to college students traveling everywhere and the start of the next cold and flu season. If you really want there to be a big “second wave” and add strain to hospitals, then by all means, take every step to slow this down.

This is what they used in the study:
Ok so a cheap paper barrier. What’s you point? Do you think there is something special about a surgical mask? It doesn’t filter air. China makes them for like $0.01

Mask and gloves and washing your hands every 30 minutes are good things to do but will not prevent you from catching Covid -19. Per Micheal Osterholm
This is exactly my point, people take this to mean “MASKS DONT WORK!!!!”
It’s not going to prevent every infection, but if a large percentage of the population wears them then it reduces the rate of which the virus replicated and possibly enough so that the virus burns out when it can’t find a new host.

Only the non-woven layers of polypropylene material that they are made out of

I wasn’t making a point. Just adding to the details.

Well we can argue over how much a specific filter can filtrate but there really isn’t any logic in filters don’t work. A single virus might be sized to pass through a filter but even then that’s like shooting a arrow through a forest. Then Is 1 virus passing through enough to meet the viral load and you even get sick. I think the Asians have done enough studies on this to prove without a doubt they do work for the general public. Now if you walk into a room that a sick persons been in all day breathing and yapping with poor airflow will the mask protect you? No.

Your meme is fricking stupid.
Not my meme and it's a joke.

And I have more of a chance of some random naked guy not wearing pants peeing on me than I do of being affected by Covid.
This is definitely not even close to true
I'm a "re-open it" person and have been for a while, but your statement is moronic.

And it tips their hands that they would rather see their fellow Americans die from the virus proliferation than be slightly inconvenienced by such a simple task.
by this logic we should wear masks all the time for the rest of our lives

It has been stated and proven over and over that the masks are more for the protection of others, which seems to escape people
Stated yes, proven no. You, like so many others, just repeat a mantra based on your poor education and inability to think for yourselves.

Please child, I've forgotten more on this topic than you'll understand in the rest of your shitty life.
quote:
The virus might be 0.1 microns but the respiratory droplets it travels on are much much larger and yes the majority of them are stopped by a mask.
Like virus particles need respiratory dropplets to travel. Listen moron, masks are not impermeable and they saturate with usage, especially lower quality masks without exhalation vents. As they saturate, the virus particles move through the media and are released at the surface, same way any germs would. These are not multi-layered, internally-baffled, highly-engineered filters. I have NBC rated gear, I know the difference in what protection they can offer. If you have ever looked at an N95 mask under a microscope, you'd know that they are not homogeneous in the density of filter media. They have comparatively large gaps throughout which is why the need several layers and when the manufacturer certifies them to a standard (N95, N99, N100, etc.) they are not certifying the masks themselves but several samples out of the roll of material the lot is being made from. These masks don't have the mechanical sealing ability to handle the containment of a cough or sneeze either. So when somebody actually does cough or sneeze, they have to touch and reposition the mask which contaminates their hands, contaminates the outside of the mask, and contaminates everything the subsequently touch (and touching is by far the largest mechanism for transmission). So no child, imagining these mask are doing anything other than giving people a false sense of security and creating poor infection control habits is purely out of your own ignorance here.

the masks don't do shite. you're an idiot.
we are completely changing how we all live from a virus that kills old and really unhealthy people.
this has been a test of how retarded some humans are.

it depends on what you mean by "work"
do they prevent you from catching the COVID-19? - NO
do they prove that the sheep can be controlled by the power hungry politicians? - ABSOLUTELY YES

All the “experts” said over and over again for the first two months that mask were not needed and would cause more transmissions. Now it’s the complete opposite. Sounds fishy to me. Was it all a lie so the healthcare workers didn’t run out.

Yes we have been over this many of times and it’s accepted by most people
