Sure masks do nothing. Firefighters, automotive painters, chem labs, pesticide and fumigation require respirators for their placebo effect.

Everyone is so sure that washing your hands is effective at stopping a respiratory virus and equally as sure that a mask doesn’t work. They have provided the same evidence for both.

They can lie about washing their hands. Can't do the same with a mask.

He’s either dumb or trolling or a red flag poster. That can’t be real.

But it is certainly a finer material and limits more particles from spreading. Not to mention better fitting.

No it’s not. It’s simply an impermeable barrier. Like a wall in the way. That doesn’t require special material, in fact some of the custom masks I’ve seen fit better than a surgical mask.

The surgical masks are made out of that material because it’s the cheapest way to produce them.

Probably helps more that no filtration at all.

But for many people I think it's becoming a fashion statement.

Cloth masks are what the CDC is recommending.

And they are retarded for doing so.

If you are so uneducated to believe a 0.1-0.22 micron virus is going to be stopped in any significant way by some shitty, improperly fitted/ worn cloth (or even a N95) mask then you should bow out of life for the benefit of the species.

Let me show you a study

LINK

They placed Petri dishes out in a room and had a surgeon sneeze with and without a mask on.

You can think of a Petri dish like a playground for bacteria, if one bacteria lands on it then it will quickly grow and multiply.

So in this study when the surgeon had a mask on bacteria grew on the plate only 8% of the time

When the surgeon wasn’t wearing the mask bacteria grew 75% of the time

It’s common sense but it shows you that a mask contains material that is expelled from your mouth and nose.

That is the most trash study you could use to support your argument. It's like you've failed every basic science course you've ever taken.

You should stop talking about subjects you have no knowledge about.

The virus might be 0.1 microns but the respiratory droplets it travels on are much much larger and yes the majority of them are stopped by a mask.

I don’t care who wears a mask. I’m just trying to figure out why the recommendation of a mask for a respiratory virus causes all this backlash and then mental gymnastics to get to the theory that masks don’t work

It’s not the recommendation. Its that certain areas are forcing privately owned businesses to require customers to wear masks. If they want to enforce it at a post office or public places, fine. But to tell a place like rouses for example that their customers have to wear a mask is BS. Government overreach at its finest.

Some places are requiring you to wear a mask in the restaurant up
Until you eat. Once you take it off to eat, the entire purpose is nullified.

Explain what is trash about it.

You know why there isn’t billions of dollars of research into whether or not masks work? Because it’s common sense and only morons like you will continue to try to disprove that.

I wonder if they had the surgeon touch everything in a store first, and then touch his mask before sneezing.

I’m not advocating for any policy.

I’m simply saying that masks are effective from a population level analysis.

I think it’s kind of silly, but it’s a risk reduction. Being around some without a mask for 15 minutes is better than being around someone without a mask for 60 minutes.

Common sense.

It boggles my mind that people think they don't work.

My only question is that why in the last month the CDC has gone from "masks don't work" to "we all need to wear masks"?

You should. This is totally hypocritical of anybody who stands up as a self-proclaimed patriot and a proponent of this country. It has been stated and proven over and over that the masks are more for the protection of others, which seems to escape people. And it tips their hands that they would rather see their fellow Americans die from the virus proliferation than be slightly inconvenienced by such a simple task.

How does something like wearing a mask turn so damn political? What is wrong with this country?
