Wife (no pics) was at the car dealership waiting for "complimentary" 15,000-mile service on a year-old vehicle.

After two hours the service manager walks in and asks her to approve nearly $900 of additional "recommended" services like oil conditioner and fuel injection cleaner, then texts her the info shown here.

Wife wasn't born yesterday, so she asks if any of these items are required in the owner's manual.

Service manager says no, so she declines.

Wonder how many people fall for this crap.

Frick car dealerships.

Friend of mine worked at a dealership. Selling cars is way behind what the service area brings in. I trust very few people that work on my car.

I don’t have a problem with any of those…just say no if you don’t want. They are real services offered…

Like aligning a vehicle that isn't out of alignment and putting Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase.

Frick them.

They’re probably charging $307 to change out the cabin air filter

Why do you think they are offering "complimentary" service? You think that you're going to show up and they are going to thank you for buying the car 15K miles ago?

I have a new lease that I swore maintenance was included but wasn’t, so whatever, but just got oil change and rotation. Dropped it off, and they would text when done. Of course there was no text, and 5 hrs later I had to call. It took me about 20 min to check out. Wait in line, signed 4 papers then had to go to cashier, wait in line, the papers were wrong, wait some more… Never again. I will do it myself before I bring it back for maintenance.

I’m getting my son’s car aligned when it hits 7500 miles…but mostly because I lowered it, put spacers on, and added some camber bolts up front. I’m sure the dealership is going question the setup…but you offer 4 wheel alignment so do it.

Not sure they’ll be able to get it back in spec.

Wish I could get that A/C work done on my old bimmer.

I was between jobs years ago and went through training at a Toyota Dealership.

The manager boldly admitted that free oil changes are just a ploy to get the cars back in so they can upcharge "their own customers".

These people are all sleazy pieces of shite, I ended up walking out of the training.

Well I build sets at the theatre, and if I’m out front sometimes I leave my windows down to hear the stereo…operate chop and table saws, you wouldn’t believe how dirty the inside of my car gets. Here’s the trunk right now:

Bonus if you name all the car fluids I keep back there, lol.

It’s not dirty?

They’re just covering their arse and offering it because if they don’t and your wife drives off and a week later something goes wrong with the car she will blame it on them not offering XYZ service.

That’s the world we live in. Everything is someone else’s fault and people want everything free. The only slimy people in the auto industry are the financing managers. They are the ones who hide fees and hide costs and get people.

The service departments don’t work off commission. They work for the manufacturer and you’d be surprised how much is covered by the manufacturers and how much pull they have.

This was years ago but my check engine light came on in my vehicle. I went to the dealership and ran into the guy who usually serviced my van (my van has wheelchair conversion with electronic driving equipment so long story short I ask to have the same person to service it because, well it just saves a lot of headache). He asked what was going on, what was I there to get looked at. I told him my check engine light came on.

He stopped from going inside and said "let me show you something". Got to my van and he asked "when was the last time you got gas?" I told him the day before. He opens up the gas tank, takes the cap off and screws it back on and told me that sometimes if the cap isn't put on tight enough or too tight, it can trigger some senses. He asked me to start it up to see if the check engine light was still on, which it was. He told me more than likely it will go off when I get on the road.

He told me if I would have went in and set up an appointment, I would end up paying over $300 and have to wait about an hour that usually takes less than a minute to get. He told me a few other general things and that's when I learned they really are out to frick you.

I have no problem with them making money, not at all. I am willing to pay a reasonable price for the service I need. No one should have to worry about whether or not they will try to hustle you by saying you need other shite. Or bringing in your vehicle for something you know doesn't take that long to fix yet when you go pick it up late that day you are charged for 3 or 4 hrs. And when you ask why did it take that long just to do whatever you needed they will tell you "we ran into a small problem, nothing to worry about, but it took us a little longer than usual".

Everything seems to come with a scam. "Sales" on black Friday. They will put Sale on something on black Friday then after the holidays have it listen for cheaper, at regular price. I know I am going on a rant, but you have to stay on your p's and q's when buying pretty much anything these days.

Not really a dirty trick, they offered services and the reply was no. It's called commerce.

HA! A couple years ago the wife calls me from the dealership and says, "you're going to be mad at me."

UH OH!

While waiting on service they steered her to the showroom and sold her a $49,000 vehicle.

Mad? No, I went insane on her for being so stupid abd the dealer for their con job.

Needless to say that car did not come home with her. She is still driving the car that was being serviced. She drove off in it just a few minutes ago.

What pisses me off is the brake fluid flush. They tried to do it to my wife’s vehicle and I put the brake fluid liquid tester to it. Wow brake fluid was still good no water in it. Yes, if you have a certain amount of water in it the fluid needs to be changed.

Sad part the mechanic didn’t know what that tester was. Lol!
