The greatest traditional MA (not BJJ) instructor in BR was Ki Yoon who had his location just off Airline in the area near the old Foxy’s. I think he was a 9th Degree in traditional (Korean) TKD.
Sadly, he developed ALS and died about 13 years ago.
He ran all the classes himself and you actually had to put in all the work to advance; unlike the black belt factories you see around now.

I’ve had my son in BJJ for 2 years, almost 7 and does enjoy it. He doesn't consider it a sport or chore.

I have the equivalent to black belts in Krav Maga, Eskrima, and Aikido.
I started with Aikido when I was 9. Eskrima is my most recent.

Hapkido. Legend had it, he would have his students street test their skills by starting bar fights at local Baton Rouge bars.

Did you take martial arts lessons at any point in your life
Tang Soo Do.
And then my instructor stabbed his father to death and tried to do the same to his mother.
Didn’t really try county hosted martial arts after that

Karate for about 2 years when I was around 7-8 yrs old. I had gotten to a few stripes on my orange belt, which really only means I broke some boards.
I wrestled in high school and loved it, still involved in it

My dad took marshal arts and used to wear his karate outfit to the gym. He stopped to get gas and some black guys accused him of being in kkk. He changed at the gym after that
