I've heard of it but do not bother with that.
I feel for the kid, really. But we had somewhere between 500-750 kids last night I'd guess. At some times, I'd barely look up at them while doling out candy. there's just no way I'm going to have so secondary bin for toys for outliers.
Sadly, if your child can not fully take part in trick or treating, then you need to do something else with them that they can enjoy. It's just not up to me to maintain a secondary bin to solve this problem.
ETA: Maybe I'm estimating on the high side...maybe around 300 or so at least. We get our neighborhood which had plenty of kids and teens, plus neighboring ones and even more this year because some geniuses decided to do trick or treating on Saturday in their hood and then conveniently drove over to ours to double dip last night. Regardless, it was a fricking lot.

The term precious snowflake is of course a shot at the mom, not the kid. The kid can't help that they have a lazy parent.

Never heard of this and my 18 month old is allergic to tree nuts. I still handed out Reese's peanut butter pumpkins.

My house is a registered teal pumpkin house with a sign outside. We have two bowls, one with candy, and one with like little cheap toys. Teal pumpkin kids can get the toys. My wife has a peanut allergy, so that's why we do it.

My oldest has a peanut allergy that is really severe, but we try to deal with it without inconveniencing others. No special bag or pumpkin - we just trick or treat like everyone else and sort out the loot at home. The boy knows not to eat anything on the route until we get home and look through it.
Then when he goes to bed I break out all those peanut butter cups, pour a glass of cold milk, and enjoy while I watch tv. One of life's simple pleasures.

I've never heard of this. All I can offer is the dad in the family we were trick or treating with last night told me I have to train my kids at a young age to grab things that I like when the parents at the door just hold the bowl down and let them pick. Gotta train them to grab Reese's cups and chocolate bars. No smarties or sweettarts.

Forgive my ignorance, but what food allergy can't eat sugar? Give me a freaking break here. I can understand having a non-nut candy but what a joke here. There's literally no kids that can't eat no allergies.
There's a large percentage of people especially kids that think they have food allergies and actually don't. That demographic and their parents are certifiably nuts.

I understand the mom requesting candy that does not contain peanuts.
I don't understand her condemning a person handing out free candy because they don't keep up with the latest trends in peanut allergy awareness

Man frick her. No, I don't know what that is nor do I care. If she's such a caring mother, then get down on the ground, dump the bag of candy out, and pick out the ones that contain peanuts. Surely she has a list.

Handed out candy to about 750 kids and didn't see 1 teal pumpkin. And this is in liberal arts college town in Ohio.
I did have 1 kid ask to exchange the peanut M&Ms I gave him for something without nuts, but that was it. No harm done.

Assuming you know in advance I don't think it's a big deal to get little cheap toys or whatever for those kids. I would do it because those kids should go have some fun too on Halloween.
I don't think it's anything to get bent out of shape over...on the flip side the parents shouldn't get bent if people don't do it or don't know about it.

This. Though it did not happen last night, a couple of years ago I had a little girl ask for candy for her brother who was a little younger that did not have nuts. Easy enough fix.
Now...I can't control the fact that these plants all work with nuts so even though it's a Hersey bar it may have trace nut residue (hehehe) on there, but at least it's not a Peanut M&M.
Beyond that, you're potentially creating an inconvenience that most people simply will not be interested in accommodating, so as a parent you may want to come up with a back up plan rather than going around grimacing at neighbors who won;t buy your kids toys for Halloween.

I just can't comprehend parents getting upset because people don't know or accommodate their peanut allergies. Sure, I know about it now because of my son, but if it wasn't for that there is no way I'd know. It's like a half a percent of people in the country.

I mean, peanut allergies are real and all but when the frick did it become MY responsibility to give YOUR kid certain shite? I don't get the direction we're going as a society at all. These little snow flakes are going to make this current worthless generation seem like the fricking WWII generation.

We had a bucket with some pretzels and some skittles and one with all the other stuff. Last year we had a couple of kids ask for no nuts. We only had about 20 kids come by last night, so we were giving out big hands full of candy. The kids all loved it. We were even offering candy to the parents.
Plus, we had a couple of kids come by, probably about 11 or 12 and ask us the football score because we had the game on.
