I hate it. I'm a Pinterest junkie and love baking so it kills me to have to purchase something. And it is expensive! We sent in snacks one day for Red Ribbon week and it was like $15 for cheese sticks and individual pouches of goldfish. Same with cupcakes, we end up spending three times more for store bought ones that are crappy and tasteless.

My kid's babysitter is from India. She laughs at this stupid peanut allergy craze. She said the first thing babies in India eat is a peanut mash, basically a peanut butter. No one has ever heard of peanut allergies in India.

you can blame all the peanut allergies on doctors telling parents to not give their children peanut butter before a year old for the last 20 years

But it's not always the case. My wife ate peanuts throughout her pregnancy and my son got diagnosed with a peanut allergy at 5 months after I ate peanut trail mix (had fricking peanut dust on my hands), picked him up without a shirt on, and he broke out in hives on his back.
We did not limit his or my wife's exposure at all. It can just happen.
We have our toys instead of candy last night and all the kids loved it. Everyone on here can lick my nuts.

it can still happen
but waiting on exposing them greatly increases that risk, which is why the number has risen recently

My wife teaches 4th grade at a private school and a mom tried to shame her into bringing in a separate treat for her kids because Krispy Kreme can't guarantee their donuts are peanut free.
She didn't do it on short notice, but I bet the next time she will do something different. You would think if your kid had some possibly fatal allergy to something you'd let your kid's teacher know, right?

It is serious though. He can technically die from it. We have to carry those damn epipens everywhere with us. People saying it's not real truly don't know what the frick they're talking about.

Those hives must be pretty bad to get an epipen prescribed. That sucks but just know that's not the norm. That's a pretty severe reaction.

They did the skin test and blood work as a result of us describing the situation with the hives. His numbers are actually really low, i.e. It's not a "severe allergy", but the risk of anaphylaxis is still there. He could have 99 minor reactions and the 100th would be a seizure. You just have to account for the worst case scenario.

That's ridiculous. My son has a peanut allergy and we don't expect to be catered to. If he gets snickers and things like that, he trades with his sisters for Starburst and Skittles. If he get Reeses Peanut Butter cups, he knows I get those, just cuz.
