re: Destroya considering making the Quarters "pedestrian only"- no cars allowed

The amount of fights that break out or almost break out between pedestrians and cars trying to cross Bourbon at night must be pretty high. I've seen it a bunch of times.
I've always been surprised at the lack of any plan in dealing with that issue.
Always amazed any drivers even tried to do it but I'm sure a few folks are tourists who make a mistake.

She should re-imagine how the city lives and call it No guns in the Quarter.
Place is a shite hole.
Cars aint the problem, gangs are but I never expected a liberal leader to have the foresight to deal with actual problems.

Delivery trucks, moving vans... People who live in FQ ain't got time for that.
Hopefully there would be exceptions for these. Definitely for delivery/moving trucks. Where would residents even park if they couldn't get to their house?

I thought of this long ago. The problem is there are no spaces directly outside the quarter to be used for staging, parking, etc... You can get imaginative with deliveries by the FQ using a delivery system to businesses but it must be staged right outside the area. I'm not sure people understand the amount of food and drink that are brought in daily to this area. It's massive. It's a good dream but probably not feasible.

But what if you live there and Ok, they make an exception for residents but how do you ever host an LSU game day watch party? Or a family Christmas get together??
I guess for me this is just a far out idea. I like convenience.

How is this supposed to work? No cars except for residents, hotel guests, people who work down there, construction, and deliveries. Other than that...no cars! NONE!

...its paid parking. your family is not going to pay to park there. why do people comment if they dont have any clue about the area?

Cities like the aforementioned Florence that do this (over a MUCH larger area fyi) allow access for deliveries, to residents, and to taxis/ubers.
They have systems set up in place to allow this and I'm sure NOLA could do the same as many cities have done in tourist areas for years.
It does make the entire area much much more enjoyable.
Significantly more parking garages would need to be built in the relatively nearby locations, and there would need to be an increase in public transport taking people to the FQ.

I said this before, isn't there some advisor that should be "advising" before she says stupid shite?
Either she doesn't listen or her advisor is just as dim-witted as her.

There are tons of delivery trucks all over the quarter everyday at any given time. It would be impossible to keep bars and restaurants running like normal if they can't deliver right at the door.

Again, they likely would be able to.
I do not think she means absolutely no vehicles whatsoever.
At least that's not how cities that already do this handle it.

Wouldn't be a bad idea if done correctly. You already can't drive down Bourbon and Royal at certain times, so just expand that area a bit, maybe Bourbon to Decatur, and only let vehicles in during morning hours or certain week day hours.

anyone who has walked or driven through the quarter understands this is a good idea.
making it happen would be a helluva challenge. i don't see the local government having the brainpower to figure it out.

That’s such a stupid idea. People in the Marigny would be fricked trying to park near their homes.

They should cut off the cross streets to force cars to turn prior to crossing Bourbon at night
