Stennis Space Center to your south measured sustained winds to 59kts.

No way I buy that. I have a friend that was a seal at that time and ran one of the teams at Stennis and he said it was mayhem... And this dude has been in mayhem before. I was in Metairie and had more than that I can tell you.

You might have your EST and CST mixed up.

Yes. I fish Last Island a lot during the summer and the little bit that is left makes it hard to fathom that there was a hotel on it.

Don't question me. Why the frick would I lie?

Not saying anyone would lie, just that people overestimate the shite they’re actually in.

For example, assuming you were in New Orleans, none of those storms produced hurricane force sustained winds in New Orleans.

I imagine times shifted over the years to accommodate model runs.

A sustained wind is defined as the average wind speed over two minutes

Thanks. Didn’t know that

It varies by meteorological association. Most places outside of the US measure 10-minute average winds. In the US we do 1 minute for tropical systems.

Just for the record- there were 92 mph wind gusts in BR during Gustav. Gusts are what do the damage and are what’s scary. And 92 mph wind gusts recorded at the airport likely don’t represent the highest gusts seen in other parts of the city. Obviously there have been many more Much worse storms in other cities but it was the worst wind event in just about everyone’s collective memories in BR. Not many storms have hit BR like that, ever, so its the best frame of reference and since there is a very large contingent of BR residents here you should realize the Gustav discussion is understandable. It’s very much like Charley references for us here in Orlando. We only have had winds like that here during a storm 45 years prior. It was the strongest winds I’ve ever experienced (86mph sustained and 105 gusts will make an impression on you)
