I agree especially since the worst impacts are felt 20 miles west and 30-40 miles East of the line. I originally looked up the trends to show how accurate NHC has been.

the NHC only concerns itself with "how long was the landfall spot actually in the cone prior to landfall"

more citizens should understand this

So is JBE. Our unemployment trust fund is practically empty, and he still has all these bs restrictions.

As crazy as it sounds, you probably missed sustained hurricane winds too. Stennis Space Center to your south measured sustained winds to 59kts.

I was in BR for Gustav and wasn’t really affected at all. Some downed limbs and leaves, but nothing bad. I think the power went out for a few hours.

So 1 minute of 80mph wind classifies it as sustained winds?
A sustained wind is defined as the average wind speed over two minutes

wtf else is there to do....you realize we wont know shite until 4 pm right?

so started down a rabbit hole..

Did yall know Isle Dernière, south of Nola used to be a big pleasure resort town during the first half of the 1800s? It was destroyed during the last island hurricane of 1856 and 200 people died. Before the hurricane it actually had white sand beaches and the water was pretty clear and was a big gambling town.

When the hurricane hit, it was a cat 4- 150mph, same as Laura. It hit the island so hard not a single structure was left and the island split into 2 during the storm and eventually into 5 different islands due to erosion.

There were 400 vacationers still on the island. The ship coming to pick them up got beached and the only way people survived was getting onto the beached ship.

Couldnt imagine, that some scary shite.

Yes. I fish Last Island a lot during the summer and the little bit that is left makes it hard to fathom that there was a hotel on it.

Read the book The Last Days of Last Island.

Also, it’s due south of Houma, not New Orleans
