MSY does have deicing equipment but there is a limited amount of the liquid. I have flown out early when planes have been deiced.

Flew out of BR January 1 2001 when we got snow. My flight was the first flight out that day and plane had to be de iced. It was a little unnerving watching the guy do it because it was probably the only time ever.

It's looking like a Monday night into potentially Thursday morning.

But location would help narrow that.

Not sure if a generator can handle a all electric heat system

I have a portable generator, 1800 watts or so, that can barely handle a coffee maker.

If snow does indeed fall, do we expect a ton of power outages? Or is an ice event the one that would cause more outages. It’s been awhile since I’ve been through a snow event down here. I am going to get my generator to setup to run a couple of heaters as a precaution.

Depends on how "wet" the snow is. It might start off as a little wet snow but if it plays out the way the models are showing, it would likely turn into more of a powdery snow since the temp would be dropping so much. Multiple models have us sitting in the low to mid 20's at noon in Baton Rouge.

Wet snow = power outages
Dry snow = a beautiful day outside and warm day inside

I need to check my wattage on the unit. My generator will run my electric hot water heater which I believe is 4500 watts. I can’t run anything else. Just wanted to be able to run at night so it won’t be like an igloo. I have 2 1500 watt ceramic heaters as backup

I hadn’t cranked my generator in a year. It’s electric start. Battery was dead. Went and bought a new battery. Bough some non etho gas. Came home swapped out the battery and put about half a gallon of gas’s and it started right up. I drained the gas out of it last winter. Need to run it once a month.

I live in the middle of nowhere and we'll lose power at odd times, but fortunately never more than a few hours at a time .
So, who knows?
But a severe icing event will cause widespread issues

Depends how wet it is.

If it's more powdery, it shouldn't be an issue.

That’s because the snow cone (lol snowcone) isn’t allowed to shift like the hurricane cone

WAFB uses it too and they’re contractually required to do so.

Which is fricking laughable and has no place in weather forecasting. Proprietary storm tracking software? Sure. Proprietary model programs with a contract binding you to use it in your public-facing forecasting over other models? Nah. They aren't the only ones who use it, either.

That is why you always need to look at weather independently to the current conditions. Sometimes weather patterns are out there that the models miss or add certain biases. That was how good ole Nash operated, he was independent. He wasn’t even an employee of the station that he worked at. He operated as an independent contractor so he wouldn’t have to deal with station management to hype up a storm or particular model for business purposes.

Now everything in TV is so hyped up and wrapped up in contracts for advertising or special weather equipment that you may not be able to trust the guy in the fancy suit or gal with the big knockers telling you the weather.

The one that gets me now is WDSU, they hired a consulting firm to certify how accurate their forecast is. It is laughable that you would need to do such a thing. It is no different than when the cigarette companies advertised that more doctors smoked Camel cigarettes than any other cigarette.

It is not like WDSU posted the survey for any viewer to see the complete results, they are just paying for the right to advertise how accurate their forecast is because XYZ said it was. It is like some of those medical awards some hospitals essentially pay to win or be recognized for.

That's because they are paid to actually try to forecast weather accurately and informatively for public awareness.
The TV meteorologists, with a few exceptions, are desperately trying to attract eyeballs to their channel.

NWS public forecast discussions are absolutely your best source for unbiased info.
