It's bad enough that the fat baws in the suburbs hate biker folks, but then it's this stuff all day in the cities. 
I deal with this alot, but it's not in bike lanes. It's the lanes of traffic downtown. Delivery drivers, taxi drivers, and uber folks think the lane is fine to just stop in and do whatever they feel like. Could easily pull up 20 feet and have a spot to pullover. That takes a functioning brain though.
And yes the biker should have just given up and went around quickly when he realized what he was dealing with. Lucky to not be dead.
