Still unclear of the actual crime. If she is 18 and says she went willingly…..

His writing style is one that would appeal to a young girl; he does not write the way a typical thirty-year-old, educated man writes.
Yeah he sounds a lot more educated otherwise (sermons, in person, etc.). This is clearly intentional and so creepy

Sheriff released a second letter that Crow had written to a friend about the situation

The following letter was mailed to an acquaintance in Mobile:
_____ said that you were the one who should be entrusted with this letter. She said She loves you very much and that you are trustworthy. I agree with Her. What I'm going to write as what she has told me to write. It will be hard for you to understand what I'm doing, but do not worry. It will all make sense one day.
Jesus told me that He wants me to leave, therefore I am not going to return from this trip. I do this with a heavy heart. It is hard to suddenly leave everything behind, but this is what He is demanding, and I cannot deny Him.
Let me be very clear: I am not leaving the priesthood. I will never forsake my sacred duties. The priesthood is the greatest gift. Jesus has ever given me, and I will treasure this gift forever.
That said, it is His priesthood, not my priesthood, and He can do with me as He pleases. I regularly tell him "Jesus, help me do your well. Nothing more. Nothing less." He has heard this prayer, and He is asking everything from me. Let His will be done.
_____ has been told to come with me. We know how this looks, but we are doing what we are told. Do not worry about defending us. This is hard for her too, but she knows she will always be safe if she does Jesus's will.
We will always be thinking and praying for all of you, especially our families and friends. Pray for us, too. We need it.
In Christ,
[signed] Rev. Alexander Crow

And I was hoping the leprechaun was back?

Isn’t the whole point of the Catholic Church to molest kids? I hear the parochial schools in Louisiana are great though.

So much controversy in this thread when it comes to interpretation and different faiths. I'm not a religion scholar but have studied a lot about the catholic church. I was born, baptized, confirmed, married Catholic, etc.. I now attend a non-denominational.
As I understand it, a priest grants forgiveness on behalf on the congregation, not for God. You've also sinned against man (the congregation). This was told to me at Cursillo. Take it like you want.
I certainly don't agree with some of the actions of the Catholic church in earlier centuries but I feel those actions were because of their beliefs. Just like we have different beliefs in this thread.
I think the important thing to remember is that despite what church you go to or what religion you practice, try to keep an open mind, use the brain that God gave you, and try to be a good person.. Have compassion, tolerance, faith and forgiveness. Don't be an a-hole.

I really hate the "I don't really have a choice - God is making me do this" rationalization crap that people use to justify abhorrent behavior. And its off-the-chart arrogant. God has to deal with a war in Ukraine, famine in Africa, all kinds of stuff... but He takes time out of his busy day to specifically tell you have to run off with your underage student, as hard (ahem) as that might be. Sickening

She's 18 and the young woman reportedly told a family member that she went with him on her own free will

First of all, praying to her is pretty worshipful. Jesus is the intercessor, not Mary. Catholic doctrine has called her infallible, perfect, AND even virgin born. That's worship.

Ok. 18 y/o. Forgive me … but it doesn’t change anything.
Do you believe God instructed him to flee the country with the 18 y/o which was the point of my post?

That talk about him being her husband leads me to believe that he performed some type of ceremony to delude the young girl into thinking they were truly married in God’s eyes, thus paving the way for them to enter into a sexual relationship. This is sickening.
It would be really easy for a priest to cobble together a faux wedding ceremony to make it appear legitimate.
So I have a bit of hearsay info. My daughter (no pics) is good friends with with daughter of someone whose mom works with the mom of the girl at an elementary school in Alabama. Girl's mom tried to go to Spain to get her to come back but had lots of passport issues. Girl and priest got kicked out of Spain due to Visa issues and have been denied a Visa in Italy. Evidently, they have 90 days and then can be extradited to the US. Mom finally got passport and went to Italy. They refused to see her and she couldn't/didn/t catch them to talk with the daughter. Mom hasn't come back yet and is in danger of being fired for job abandonment.
There is a good bit of evidence found by the family that the Priest most definitely groomed her and that they'd been planning this for almost a year. Girl had gone to some sort of youth retreat/event and talked/met Priest there. She just up and disappeared one day and they found out thru airlines that she had gone to Spain. Eventually found stuff that said they were going to do exorisms there. Priest has been removed from the church.
Like I said...all hearsay...but crazy!!!

That's wild. So when they are extradited to the US, they just put them on a plan and send them where?

So you’re telling me John the Baptist didn’t dance?
Apparently honey and locusts was fast foodsback in Roman-occupied Levantine.
All the Baptists I knew were picky eaters.
