No it is not. Santa Elena Canyon is the iconic image of Big Bend. They are working near it. The terrain goes from canyons and cliffs to flat desert. The river ebbs and flows.

I didn't think that hey were going to put up a barrier in the areas pictured, just the flatter areas.

It will never be “zero”

A wall may lower numbers, but they will eventually find another way into this country.

the wife and I hiked 14 miles over two days with an overnight camp in big bend, we each had to carry 2 gallons of water and we ran out on the hike back in.

You need to work on your water management if you’re going to hike in Big Bend

F yes.
Thank goodness.
A very small percentage of illegals are crossing in that vicinity.
Another item on the list of things the Trump admin does not think through.

The Big Bend Sector covers 77 Texas Counties and the entire state of Oklahoma. I live in Brewster County, know several BP Agents and had conversations with Brewster and Terrell County Sheriff’s. They are all against physical barriers and want technology instead. Go check out Sherriff Thaddeus Cleveland’s Facebookbook or google.

Most of those guys are conservative as well, and acknowledge a border crisis, but know it does more harm than good in that region.

There was a border crisis, but not in this region. BP, Texas DPS Operation Lone Star and Sheriff’s in Operation Stone Garden do a good job out here.

This is the OT. Facts have no place in this discussion.

Now imagine you are an immigrant trying to cross into Texas thru big bend…once you leave the river there is no water until you either get to chisos basin visitors center which is 25 miles and a 1000’ climb, or terlingua (30 miles, 900’). You would be dead before you got halfway

Not really. Will be crazy lunatic liberals running around dropping water jugs off all over the place. Happens a lot in Arizona.

That doesn’t happen in Big Bend. I’ve never seen a documented case. BP and Park Rangers will not let that happen. I live in the region and there is not a land owner that will allow this either. There are no established routes for water stations

It’s not like they are clear cutting the Amazon jungle. I saw a very brief video, and the equipment appeared to be clearing a path that was no more than about ten feet wide for the barrier.

I can’t say that’s consistent for the entire project, but “damage” to the park seemed VERY minimal.

And yet by doing this you are making it EASIER for illegals to get in through Big Bend, not harder.

Some of the areas where they are wanting to build a wall will require moving parts of mountains.

Tell me how that makes sense. Yes let's remove a part of a huge mountain that is pretty much a 100% deterrent to illegal border entry to build a 30 foot border wall that can easily be defeated and climbed over.

But please, tell me how a 30 foot border wall is more of a deterrent than mountains that immediately rise hundreds of feet.

The damage to the park with a border wall would NOT be minimal. I'm for border security and the border wall, but it needs to be in areas where it's very easy for illegals to otherwise cross. California, parts of Arizona and New Mexico, El Paso, Brownsville to Del Rio, but Big Bend National Park is not a place illegals are crossing.

Yes sir... we know that the Germans are going to invade through the Ardennes and we could stop them if we build a barrier. But we'd have to cut down a lot of trees and it would look unsightly.

I’ve myself crossed the Rio Grande At Big Ben National park in small aluminum boat into Mexico with high school friends. It was a simple to do, we each paid $1 to some random Mexican and then got drunk in a Mexico town. Actually, did it twice.

Don’t act like the border in impassable at Big Ben by only showing the impassable parts.

You think it’s beautiful now? Wait till the illegal invaders start leaving their trash everywhere like they have around other parts of the border

The ones caterwauling about how a wall will destroy the park's beauty don't give a shite about our green/natural spaces so this won't bother them one bit.
