Thank God.

quote:

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott said he would halt construction activity in Big Bend National Park as efforts to erect a border barrier have met bipartisan pushback.

In a video posted to social media on Monday, Scott said, “Last night I put a pause on all activity in that park as far as construction goes until I can get down there and do a personal evaluation.”

for frick's sake...

Yes sir... we know that the Germans are going to invade through the Ardennes and we could stop them if we build a barrier. But we'd have to cut down a lot of trees and it would look unsightly.

well...frick that then.

No one is invading through Big Bend. It’s impassable as it is.

I don't think Big Bend is a hot spot for illegal immigration and it's gorgeous.

All for border security, but this deserves more scrutiny than just walls in the barren, flat border desert.

I love the Big Bend area. Planning to go in October. It's a national park, for crying out loud. And the roads in and out of there are already crawling with border patrol.

Build the wall everywhere else, and beef up the cyber barriers, border cameras and personnel where needed in Big Bend. Just leave it the frick alone.

Trump is worried about illegals coming in by the millions when white liberals like myself can't even afford eggs.

Comparing the Ardennes to this section of big bend is laughable. It’s inhospitable, remote, and mountainous. If you are crossing into the US this is one of the last places you would attempt.

Look at a map sometime

It will be when they KNOW there's no barrier.

But... there will be drones and CBP patrols and shite.

Yeah. And what happens to those when the Dems take Congress and cut their budget (or prohibited spending on this)? Or if (God forbid) AOC or Cackles wins in 28 and orders CBP to hit the kill switch?

Build the wall and it stays there, regardless. The alternative is a very public dismantling of the physical barrier.

I think if they're getting over mountains, cliffs, canyons, and rivers, they'll get over a wall

This is just not the spot it's needed and we have to protect our natural treasures.

Plus, as someone said, this has tons of park rangers and tourists. It's not a massive hub for border crossings.

It’s been crawling with border patrol through dem and rep administrations and heavily surveilled with cameras. Again you don’t know what you are talking about

Are you suggesting that they were going to build a wall right through the middle of those picturesque landscapes? Because that was not my understanding.

It’s not like they are clear cutting the Amazon jungle. I saw a very brief video, and the equipment appeared to be clearing a path that was no more than about ten feet wide for the barrier.

I can’t say that’s consistent for the entire project, but “damage” to the park seemed VERY minimal.

My suggestion is illegals aren't crossing the border en masse through these areas. That would be absurdly hard. It is it's own natural barrier.

If millions of people can traverse the Darién Gap to get to the US then there’s no such place that’s “impassable”. The majority of northern Mexico is a freaking desert and that inhospitable region hasn’t hindered millions of illegal immigrants from invading the US.

I have camped on one of the campgrounds right on the river. It was very pretty, not sure I had ever seen so many hummingbirds at once.

Both sides are being ridiculous here. You’re right that it wasn’t going to be near as invasive as the sky screamers are saying. But those saying that it isn’t really needed in this area are also right. It’s incredibly unforgiving terrain with huge distances involved and it’s already crawling with border patrol.
