Could the Fentanyl crisis scare people from trying drugs for the first time?

If people keep dying at this current pace, could the Fentanyl issue have the un-intended consequence of reducing the number of people who ever start doing drugs in the first place?
As the message gets out that you could die from your first hit, will it stop some people?

I hope so
But as long as the devil’s advocates like JRE and Aaron Rogers advocate for these gateway drugs as medical treatment, we will always have worthless druggies. They should stick to harmless substances like alcohol and doctor prescribed medications, you know, legal substances that have been ok’ed by our government.

Possibly. It can certainly keep them from trying drugs the 2nd time.

People are idiots, especially kids. Drug use will continue.

We should be starting all young Americans on opioids early so that they don’t overdose if they encounter fentanyl. Kids in Europe are allowed to do opioids with their parents in restaurants from a young age and are legally allowed to buy at 16 and they don’t have nearly the same problems we have

I think it will help, but what degree, no idea. Starts with the parents having the courage to start the conversation with their kids early

After Len Bias died on his first snort of coke, any curiosity I had about drugs went out the window. Pass me a Miller Lite.

Thanks to D.A.R.E. Programs and Reagan’s war on drugs. We are winning

Of course it will stop some but a new breed of knuckleheads is born every second.

Or people can just smoke weed instead of doing all the other crap. I don’t understand why people have to do fentanyl and other deadly drugs.

Because marijuana makes you want to inject black tar heroin. It’s science.

Drug popularity often increases based on awareness of negative consequences. Crack and meth are highly addictive and everyone knows that. Yet, the drugs are so compelling to people because others risked being addicted to experience the high. Nothing will change with fentanyl. America’s insatiable appetite for drugs will not be stopped or slowed because of deaths from a drug.

In general it's just not worth the risk to be honest.
Typical opioid overdose can be reversed and you have a pretty good window to get the naloxone in and save a life.
Fentanyl your window is seconds to minutes to reverse it with naloxone. In general it's not gonna fricking happen.
With the latest craze of adding fentanyl to everything, it's just not worth it.

Narcan becoming readily available could be a blessing and a curse.

There is tons of evidence out there that prescription meds, specifically pain killers are the reason why you have hard core heroin/opiate addicts.
