I did at my first CC practice. No idea why the coach let me run that. Puked my arse off afterwards. Should not have tried to keep up with the kids who had been training already. It was much easier 10 years later in jogging class at LSU after I figured out how to run long distances

I was a party animal at LSU, but I never took classes like that. Hell, I used my free electives to take quantum and condensed matter...and a cartography course that a hot chick I knew said she was taking...but she did not.

Just be sure to be very supportive and constructive. Tell him him things like if you don’t win the race you’re an embarrassment to the family or if you lose don’t bother coming back to the trailer park. Kids need this type of encouragement

I took basically every "easy" class, but also took electives that were interesting to me (made good grades if I liked the material). I was just trying to gtfo

And now you're reduced to a never ending string of threads about your son's budding athletic career and removing badges from cars....

My word.

Uh, shall I talk about the countless launch and test programs, and new analysis techniques I’ve developed for various NASA sites?

This is false. 14 year old me could play pickup basketball all day but would not run a 10k if you paid me.

of course. How fast you do it is another story. If you're athletic and can't run 6.25 miles, then you really aren't athletic.

Negative.

It's more of a mental thing. I get very bored running distances. I would rather run gassers for 20 mins than run 2 miles, even today (in late 20s)

It’s a Disney 10k

Can your child handle a brisk walk for 6 miles? If yes, then he can finish the race. Those runDisney events only require participants to maintain a 16-minute mile pace to stay in the race.

This thread has been a hoot. A board where probably less than 30% of its posters have run a 10K agree almost unanimously that all 12 year olds can run a 10K

Never change OT

60 minutes? No wonder that kid got cut from his travel ball team. My niece got to the Fun Run (1 mile) late and decided that try the 5K. She finished in about 24 minutes and that was because my sister was holding her up. Oh, yeah ... Did I mention how old she was? No, I didn't.

She was ALMOST seven!

If your kid took 60 minutes to finish a 10K, you're dealing with one of three things:

1) Your kid has special needs.
2) Your kid is a lardass.
3) Your kid was to lazy to properly prepare.

He didn’t run a practice race or even know how far it really was. It wasn’t off the coach, but he didn’t prepare a second for it either.
