Our Costco just has an employee available to help in self checkout and age verification when needed. Stupid for a store not to do that.

Think that is also how it is in Lafayette. But I will say that the Scan-and-Go at Sam's beats the self-checkout at Costco hands down. They need to do that at Costco.

Where else have you been that allowed you to scan alcohol/ tobacco at self checkout? The answer should be absolutely nowhere.

I can’t speak to tobacco, but everywhere I shop that has self checkout allows you to scan alcohol. The cashier overseeing the self checkout just has to come over and do an age verification.

Several years ago the Walmart in Covington refused to sell us a 6 pack of beer in the regular checkout, my wife had her ID but mine was in the truck. The cashier and manager both said everyone had to be over 21 with valid ID, that was the first and last time I’ve ever come across that.

Your stupid for thinking you didn’t have to show your ID.

Also not mentioned in here: Sams Scan & Go also gives price incentive "scan & go price" on some items. Sometimes its 40-50% discount to use scan and go.

We gave up on Costco in Baton Rouge last year.

Then they need to figure their shite out. You can go through self checkout with alcohol at HEB and neighborhood Walmart and it pages for an employee.

In Texas, these club stores have to sell beer and wine to public even without club membership. That's why the separate area for beer and wine.

You should have asked for the manager, Karen.

At least here, it’s the only thing Sam’s has over them in our market. Costco’s here have better products and service overall.

Use to enjoy Costco and went nearly every week. Now I’m barely using the membership because I hate going.

Self checkout has to really screw over places. I was at whole foods the other day and watched a guy get the expebsive caviar and aged beef. But he entered in hot bar by weight. I saw his total was like $12 yet I know the caviar was $99 at least.
I'm sure that happens all the time.

They wanted it this way so they don't have to employ actual people and open any registers. I don't give one single shite about a company that wants people to check out their own items if they don't want to staff properly. That's on them.

My issue is that I would now rather check my own stuff out and I am faster than their cashiers and more accurate. But now they want self checkout to be 15 items or less at Wal mart and still only have 2 regular lanes open. Soon they will eliminate self checkout and still only have 2 lanes open.

They always checked mine before or at least someone approved it. I don't look anywhere close to 21 so they rarely made me show them.

I agree with OP. The new system sucks. The funny part is there is still an employee working the self checkout so they could check IDs.

Last time we just left the couple bottles of wine on a table near the self checkout and didn't buy it. A bunch of people were doing the same.

Had to get in the regular lines with several people deep while the self checkout were basically all open with no customers in sight.

I don't understand how we live in a world with AI Bigfoot but still don't have rfid tags on shopping items that let you walk through a couple of sensors with a hundred items in a basket and it instantly ring up all of them and with a simple approval, walk out of the store.

As it should. They want us to scan and bag, we are in control.
