Everyone here in Cortana's heyday remembers Spencer's gifts and the worn out poster of Farah Fawcett.... But, I also remember "Chess King" for the "cool" men's clothes in the 70's and 80's. Chelsea Street Pub was a regular stop too. What are your favorite Cortana memories?

I remember it being fun to go to at Christmas time. I hated school clothes shopping though. Trying on fricking everything to make sure it fit. I remember eating at Picadillys a lot and the corn dog place. There was also an "everything's a dollar" store too around 1990-91 that I remembered. In the fifth grade, we did a Christmas program there. I think the last time I can remember setting foot in the place was in 1998 thereabouts.

My mawmaw got me Doug Williams autograph at Picadilly there. She got him to sign a bank envelope that she had notes scribbled all over. I asked her how she knew it was Doug Williams and she said lots of people were talking to him and he was a big black guy so she figured he was an athlete.

She also got me Chris Jackson's autograph at Cortana, but had him sign an LSU t-shirt for that.

I remember seeing him putting flyers under windshield wipers in the Drusilla parking lot back in the day.

Worked there in most of the 80s, my most memorable moment was when Larry Ks daughter was shot. I wonder if the bullet hole is still in the wall, I used to go look at it every time I passed it.

We used to ride our bikes to Cortana and go in the fire corridors and you could actually ride your bike in the mall.

Was there a burger/ice cream place right by one of the entrances there in the late 80's? I remember eating at some place like that in a mall the night before a Bama-LSU football game around 87 or 88. Pretty sure we then went to a movie.

When I was a youngster, my parents would bring me and my friends down from north Louisiana to Tiger football games. This would have been mid-70s to early 80s. We would get up a little bit early on Saturday mornings, so that we could hit Cortana around noon and spend a few hours there. We loved the "big city" mall. Another memory is, when we would get in radio range of Baton Rouge, we would turn the radio station to the local channel that would play a weekly radio spoof of the Tiger's opponent using snippets of current pop songs....we loved those!

My dad bought me my first shotgun at Service Merchandise in Cortana. Imagine going to buy a gun in the mall now
