I have sat in 406 since 1991, high neighbor.

We have taillgated on the Old Front Nine for over 20 years and I live in Central, so, I know my option. If you can get to Gourrier (Old Front Nine Driveway Entry), head East to W. Parker, Left to Highland, take a right. This is critical man, turn left into the nieghborhood on Amherst before the road block on LSU Ave. Then basically cut thru the neighborhood back to LSU Ave and take a left and you are home free. If you do not turn on Anhesrt, you are screwed

Or park over by the Volleyball courts side to the north and exit out on Nicholson to Goverment. Logistics Bruh
Top Of The Rock Museum in the Arkansas Ozarks. Amazingly done covering local Civil War, Native American and Dinasour history. It blew me away, was not expecting how extremely nice this place is.

Had Tickets in 82 when Ossie banned Ozzy. Cost me chance to see Randy Rhoads.

1983 at the State Fair Grounds on Airline with, Blue Oyster Cult, LeRoux and Vandenberg. Lake E Lee on lead for Ozzy.

At UNO with Alice in Chains in 1993. Zakk Wylde on lead for Ozzy.

Sadly, never got to see Black Sabbath

He was the "sound" of the band without a doubt. I saw them a few times back in their prime and they always delivered. Two drummers......

Bruh, I was Class of '78 at Belaire and that place was like Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They didn't call it Jellaire for nothing.

Oh, I remember all too well as then DA Ossie Brown cost me my chance to see Randy Rhoads. I had tickets to that show and Ossie did in fact ban Ozzy as a Devil Worshiper after he was in the news for biting the head off of a Bat. At that time, BR was a top 5 Tour stop. It was an epic era of concert history. Every weekend was a HOF Performer. I was a very young electrician at the time and drove a huge arse Bread Van for work. It was white, and in the sheen of dirt and dust I scrawled out the words, "Ozzy vs Ossie" on it in huge arse letters. A picture of me driving that van with those words somehow ended up in the local newspaper. My then boss was not pleased. In true Ozzy form, he gave Ossie a huge FU and played a killer outdoor show in 1983 at the State Fairgrounds on Airline. The line-up was Blue Oyster Cult, LeRoux and Vandenberg. Jake E Lee played Lead Guitar that night for Ozzy.
That is great question Speedy. The longest road project in the history of man. The State Capitol was built faster in the frickin 40's.......As a resident of Central, I am beyond pissed.
I knew Mugsy well, he could shoot some Pool but was one hell of a degenerate.
I spent some time runnin in the BR Pool scene way back when. Tournaments all over town on the weekends. Pool Leagues where local dive bars teams competed. I ran a team out of Sonny's off Madeline Ct. You had to know Eddie Reeves at Greenway? Used to shoot at JD's on Dallas Dr. And Mr. G's on Sharp Rd. Lots of fights over a 25 cent Pool game. Much fun....
Oh man the Happy Note. Tommy was one of the owners I think, and the resident bookie. Tall lanky bartender was Jack and he poured the stiffest drink in BR. Tommy took me and another regular on a "Collection" ride once without telling us what we were getting into, nobody died.
Man, Tiger Lair is a place I've not thought about in years. Used to shoot pool there, 2nd floor, it was the coolest vibe in Tigertown. The only other place in that area we went to was on across Nicholson, maybe it was called Yesterday's. Late 70's, early 80s.

Red Oaks checking in.

Another Red-Oaker here.

- Belaire was new high school and full of hot arse gals wearing B Bennet hip huggers and Halter Tops. We smoked pot at the bleachers.

- We hung out at the North Sherwood Park on the weekend blaring Led Zeppelin and getting high.

- We threw the Frisbee around a lot, played ultimate frisbee before there was such a thing and way before frisbee golf.

- Rock and Roll Clubs (J Club, Sports Page, Papa Joes, etc) were the place to be seeing great local bands like Pot Liquor, Blue Max and Maniaxe.

- The LSU Assembly Center was a top 5 tour stop for concerts. Every weekend it was; Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Bad Company, Queen, Eagles, etc.

- Fastpitch Softball was a huge sport for boys and men's leagues. Huge league at Forest Park.

BR was a great place to grow up and raise a family.

TREEDAWG’S CHICKEN & DUMPLINGS

1 Whole Chicken
10 Cups Water
1 Yellow Onion
2 Stalks of Celery
½ Cup of Green Onions
2 Bay Leaves
2 Tbsp. Real Butter
½ Cup Milk or half & half for thicker
Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder

DUMPLINGS:

3 Cups Flour
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
6 Tbsp. Crisco
1-1/3 Cups Water
Salt & Pepper

Cut Chicken into pieces and place in Stock Pot (12 Qt. Magnalite is perfect) with 10 Cups seasoned Water. Use the entire Chicken including Giblets. Add Onions, Celery and Bay leaves. Slow Boil, covered until meat separates from bone (about 1 hour). Let cool.

Remove Chicken into large Bowl, discarding all Skin, Bones, etc. Reserve meat for later.

Make Dumplings on a large floured cutting board. Mix dry ingredients and spice. Cut in Crisco. Add Water slowly and mix making a stiff Dough. Place Dough on board, adding some Flour on top. Roll out Dumplings no less than 1/4" thick. Cut into 1-1/2" x 2" pieces.

Bring Stock back to a boil. Season to taste. Add Dumplings one at a time. Add remaining Flour from cutting board, Butter and Green Onions. Stir gently (be easy with the Dumplings). Reduce heat and simmer, un-covered for 20 minutes.

Cut Chicken into bite size pieces. Add to Stock Pot after Dumplings are cooked. Stir in Milk. Turn off heat, cover and let sit for at least 10 minutes. Lets eat!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning Teacher, I am sad to report that I still write my lower case "b" & "d" backwards........

Maurice Carver stock

Throw in a little Boudreaux stock (Lafayette area) and some old school Hemphill stock (Arkansas) and you really had something.

Old man Jenkins had some really good stock over by Covington also.
I will share what I know from raising Pits back in the 70's. We took great precautions to ensure the dogs remained under control at all times. The only way to get them to release the locked jaw, besides a bullet, is the proper use of a "Break Stick". We carried this with us anytime we handled the dogs. The stick is like a wood hammer handle that is whittled down to a wedge like an Oyster knife. Grab dog from behind by scruff if the neck, straddle the dog, squeeze your legs very tight above his hip, pull up to get his front legs off the ground, jam the stick near the back of his teeth and pry like you are opening an Oyster, continuing to pull up. When he releases keep the stick jammed in his mouth and keep off the ground. This has been the method for 100 years on farms and in the country when Pits where actually working dogs.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all you cooks out there. Whether domestic or commercial, daily or seasonal, Mom or Pop......here's to the love and effort you personally invest. All just to see people gather together in peace and harmony, to break bread and toast of libations. Smiles and laughter abound in some sort of poetic chaos. And then it's quiet again. I have cooked so many meals in the past month, washed an arse load of pots, pans and trays, made groceries of epic hauls just the same as most of you. In the end, it's still all worth it.

Happy New Year 2024 Foodies!!!
