if you bought paint from the Sears Paint Department in summer of 1993, I may have sold it to you...

Cortana was a great mall even into the late 90s-early 00s. Mall of LA opening and the general decline of that area killed it. I can't believe there are still stores open there.

I only lived in Baton Rouge for a year before we moved to Houma, so I don't really remember much, but right after my family moved back from California when I was in 7th grade Cortana had a "nasty sneakers" contest. The winner got $100 in mall gift certificates. I begged my dad to bring me. I showed up in my grass cutting shoes, and won 1st prize. I felt like a millionaire.

There was also a huge toy store across the street from Cortana called Children's Palace, where the thrift store is now. It was awesome as a kid. This was before the were any toys r us.

Fun Fair Park, Bennigans and Chi Chis across the street. Leo's roller land. I have a lot of good memories of that area from the 80s.

Space Port - The Corn Dog Stand - Mama Brava’s
Me and my buddies hung out there in high school & my wife worked at Wilson’s Jewelers for a few years when we first met. She made darn good money at Christmas time.
Hard to believe how busy that place once was.

Great memories... Farewell Cortana.

This thread could easily be about Christown Mall in Phoenix, or Quakerbridge Mall in Trenton, NJ, or ____________ Mall in _____________ …………...

I'd imagine most cities over 200k have some sort of declining mall. Mall of LA is still pretty busy. Cortana has been dying a slow death for 20 years.

Does anyone else remember The Knife Store? It was pretty close to Space Port.

I had the high score on Dragons Lair at Spaceport for a short time around ‘86 / ‘87 Probably spent a few hundred dollars over a summer on that game.

It was next to Piccadilly for a long time, but I think it was in another location before it moved to the spot next to Piccadilly

There use to be this burger place.. I want to say it was across from where Journey's was located. It was named Orange crush? Orange... something. Anyone remember this place? I think some Asian (not India or Middle eastern type people, but China type people) people ran it.

Yes! I had forgotten about that place, but it was always a stop on a mall visit. Got a couple of ninja stars and a hunting knife there. Always had my eye on a Samurai sword, but never could convince my mom to buy it for me.

Was it orange Julius’s? It was on your right as you made the turn to Dillard’s?

There was also a small hunting store closer to Service Merchandise that had a few guns and a ninja selection. I think I got some throwing stars from this store

I think the original anchors were Sears, Penneys, Goudchauxs and Dillards.

I could be wrong about the dillards but there was a high end department store that had a very classy restaurant on the 2nd floor that overlooked a fountain part of the mall. It was when it first opened. I think they shut that sometime in the 80's.

Great times at that mall.

Mama Brava's pizza for the damn win. Me and my mom would stop by there for a couple slices on the way to doctor's appointments, school and general errands.

It was good stuff. I think the same chef that used to sling pizzas there there is now working at the Mall of La.
