That’s with the assumption of spread doubling every 6 days right without slowing at all right?
Right.
But that’s how these viruses spread. There’s a reason for that assumption, why that figure was calculated in the first place and why most epidemic data is presented in log rather than linear scale.
Why would you assume it’s not applicable this early in the spread, especially given almost all reports we have seen is that it is highly contagious in normal social interactions.

You are just like the funeral home owners in St. Bernard who refused to evacuate in the face of Katrina.
Preparing for a storm that's coming isn't pearl-clutching. But idiotically pretending that a hurricane isn't going to damage anything and laughing at the people boarding up their homes give you the brain of a five-year-old.
Nice

quote:Context man. The guy said by May. Swine got to, what, 55 million in a year? But it started on this continent and spiked hard through the colder months. Neither of those initial conditions exist here.
Then ridicules someone for saying it could infect 8 million people.

WTF? How did you get that from what he said? Did you even read what he said?

Analogy. It's called an analogy.

This is a thread where if you compare some of the posters attitudes to those of the passengers who refused to get on the Titanic's lifeboats b/c it was cold and the ship was unsinkable you are apparently calling the entire United States a sinking ship.
Posted on 3/11/20 at 10:47 am to Dr RC
Well you kinda are.
The titanic was a life or death situation. No in between the extremes. It’s a bad analogy.

The CFR needs to be additionally broken down into age/underlying conditions demographics. It does not tell the whole picture until you see it broken down that way. Which is to say it's affecting old people and those that already have issues that are overwhelmed by this virus.

No. I wasn't. But congrats on your multi day obsession with trying to frick this thread up. You have incredible dedication.

I am currently washing my hands prudently. If I feel ill at all I will not go around my elderly family members
So explain to me how I am like the Saint Bernard funeral home owners that didn’t evacuate when a category 5 storm was heading at them
Please explain how I am the idiot, and not the complete dumbass that said this

I actually think the hurricane analogy is decent although not perfect. You know it’s coming. People have to prepare differently depending on location and situation. No one should panic. Some hurricanes are more deadly than others. Misinformation can be a problem. It dissipates over time. It has a “season.”
