Govt leadership needs to go back to volunteers who work in the private sector.

For anyone who has ever dealt with the City Parish or the permitting division this should come as no surprise.

Dysfunction is putting it mildly.

They can’t get the permits done for their own stuff - let alone for outside businesses

All Louisiana tire dealers are required to collect from the consumer at the time of the retail sale, a waste tire cleanup and recycling fee of:
• $2 for each passenger/light truck tire
• $5 for each medium truck tire
• $10 for each off-road tire

So tire retailers are collecting these fees from their sales but dumping the tires in blighted areas of the city.

Anyone surprised?

So confused why he is concerned whether the shredded tire waste is sold in NBR or SBR? The tax money all still goes to EBR, or am I missing something? I am sure no one in town is buying shredded tires but I could be wrong

It’s the concern over environmental issues when shredding the tires.

Agreed, but you’d still have to deal with some career city/parish/state worker that’s just as incompetent as the rest. It blows my mind how they can frick up the simplest of tasks and never get held accountable. Private sector you’d be collecting unemployment.

Pretty much all of NBR is already an eyesore

The reason NBR is predominantly black is because property values or weak because of all the industry over there. NBR used to be a nice area in the early 70’s. Hell I used to ride my bike from LSU to NBR to play with people that I went to school with. No way in hell that would happen today. I went to school in NBR. It’s just like any other part of town that starts getting an influx of cultcha, it quickly goes down hill. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. But no politician one would ever say that

jobs

Matt Watson came and spoke to my HOA meeting a while back concerning this project. This would have created 10+ jobs with an average pay of $40k and they had to go to people who live within 5 miles of the shredder. The original site next to the airport is already contaminated and is useless for any other purpose. It was a perfect place for it. I really think this is a hit job on Watson to try and hurt his campaign. Once again BR can’t get out of it’s own way. I’m sick of this place.

Tire shop guy knows good damn and well what is going to happen but his hands are clean so he pays the guy, keeps the rest and the tires get dumped illegally.

Obviously there should be paperwork available to track these.

I don’t live there, but it’s insane the stories I hear about the city government in BR.

When I was a journalist my first beat out of school was local government and the wildest thing I ever saw was a few people throw a fit about the city run water park losing $12K/year

You totally got it. And almost all the tire shops guilty of this are along Plank and Florida near...(drum roll)...70805. So the tires end up on dead end streets and in ditches nearby. Can’t carry those tires far for a dollar

$400k total.

9 jobs at $20k and one at $200k. The extra $20k goes to insure contract renewal.

They wanted to put the tire shredder next to the Mosquitto Abatement and Rat Control building, and across the street from EBR Parish jail which holds 1500 prisoners but a a couple of idiots said I it was bad for the neighborhood so they stopped it,
Now discarded tires continue to pile up and foster more mosquitoes.
