How old were you when yours started?
Early 40s. Started with the ringing. Went to a few ENTs. They said there was nothing that could be done. Hearing in one ear started fading about 10 years later. Hearing in the other ear went almost completely out about 10 years after that.

20 years in the service and GWOT did it to me.

Your doctor never noticed this?

I got it after a bout with covid, but after a few trips to the ent and a strong steroid injection (also a good cleaning)it went away…..probably lasted for two months, but I’ve been fine going on several years.

Morbid, if your are Scottish it may not be Tinnitus
My internist was very Irish but educated in Scotland. He diagnosed 2 issues correctly that were misdiagnosed by doctors not educated in Scotland.
#1 I was diagnosed in my 40's with Spinal Stenosis which turned out to be an aliment of Scots when they hit middle age. Wearing scarfs and neck mufflers solved it.
#2 I was diagnosed in my 30's with Tinitus which turned be an ailment of Scots which meant being very careful about my salt intake as in Scots, too much salt screws with your inner ear with all sorts of unpleasant effects.

yeah, apparently in some situations if it's caught early on and treated with steroids the damage can be reversed. But, I think the success rate has been pretty low.
I mean, it's worth a shot.

I had the ringing in my ears, turned out to be caused by sleep deprivation.
Doctor put me on sleep meds for 2 months and it went away.

Go to the walk in.
They will spray a solution deep in your ear.
You will feel like a champion.

There was a short-term study done at a high school recently I read about. A high percentage of women teachers were reporting ear ringing much like the high percentage of nurses at that hospital in the NE are reporting cancer.
Turns out, it was repeated head trauma from underage dick in the local school.

Have had it for probably twenty years..
Went to a friends birthday party at a bar and he had a band.. got stuck to close .. next day I had it and it has never gone away. Some people say it gradually goes away over years … up to ten.. not mine.. tends to be worse when under stress or been drinking to much alcohol.. you learn to ignore it unless someone brings it up in a conversation:(
Have a friend that gets it so bad at night she had to get earphones with some Sounds playing that helps quiet it at night.
Hopefully yours goes away. I have heard it does for some people.

I got pretty messed up my freshman year of college and fell off a structure head first into the grass luckily. I had 60% hearing at best for the next 10 years.
One day it popped and I had full hearing. It was incredible.

Yep. Sucks. Had it since a bad seat in front of the stage speakers at a cheap trick concert in the 90s. You get used to it but excessive drinking or lack of sleep can make it unbearable at times.

shite. That reminds me I have to schedule my VA appointment for tinnitus.

Tinnitus. There is no fix that I know of. You get used to it to the point that you don’t even notice it unless you think about it.
This is my situation

I have permanent tinnitus - I blame machine guns and grenades - several engagements with no ear pro on.

We had a big firewood-cutting session with some old baws for some neighbors in need, over two years ago. I took my earmuffs off to talk to the old guy who was helping me split. Lots of chainsaws and splitters going at once. Haven’t been the same since.
I wear headband earbuds at night and do the white noise and the right frequency (like the one someone linked above). I don’t notice in during the day. It’s mostly if I wake up to pee.
It appears to also be tied to stress and blood pressure and dehydration for me.
At 50, I assume it’s just something I live with. My mom and brother have it. Grandad had it. So it may also be a genetic thing. My mom has never been around the sort of noise that would cause it.
There’s a new pill they’re testing and the Lanier system (they shock your tongue to train your brain) is available at a clinic in Hammond I believe. Haven’t heard any reports on that except in videos.

No cure for tinnitus, just learn to live with it.
