Pretty much this - especially in certain fields...and in certain cities.

In Austin, and in IT, you're almost an outcast if you don't have any ink.

Tattoos will be acceptable in 10-15 years once the millenials start pushing out that piece of shite generation

You better watch your mouth, this is the OT. Suits all day every day. Home of ugly watches, over blown job titles, and all things not trashy. Adhere to their person beliefs or GTFO.

Tattoos? Trashy
Wear shorts to work? Unforgivable, this is a professional environment.
Yeti coolers? The OT wins theirs at DU and CCA circle jerks
Frat turnities? Sorry you didn't get selected.

Sounds like someone's pissed that their neck tats are keeping them unemployed.

Too trashy for prime time...

Many members of the tattoo tribe say they get their tattoos to make a statement. If you are going to make a statement, then don't get all bent out of shape when someone makes conclusions about you based upon your "statement."

I have tattoos so I don't look down on them but they can all be covered with a t-shirt. I do tend to think that people with neck tats have given up on life. Yesterday I ate at Jack in the Box ( I guess I can be accused of giving up on life too) and the guy at the register was one of the most professional and courteous fast food workers I've ever seen. But he was in his 30's so I think that the giant "Bloods" tat on his throat (blonde hair, blue eyed white guy) is the reason he's slinging Sourdough Jacks and not pulling down decent money somewhere. I just don't get the thought process that leads to self-limiting your options.

And if your statement is "I'm edgy and cool", you're not. Everyone else is doing it too. Kinda like how everyone started growing goatees in the 90's.

Surely this automatically closes doors in terms of employment and/or potential relationships right? Or am I an old pawpaw and this is the new norm?

My current company has a no facial hair policy, but doesn't care about visible tattoos.

As long as it's not a swastika or something in that vein.

Depends on the type of tattoo and location. But for the most part society has moved past bodily ink. You will find tattoos, visible or not, across almost all professions.

Cute girls who tat up reduce their odds of marrying up.

A gal can be dumb and poor, yet escape poverty based on hot looks and a nice rack, but that sleeve tat will block that opportunity.

You don't see many wives of doctors or bank presidents sporting ink.

Employer, "Ya know you're really not quallified for this job and the other candidates are better.... But then I saw your barbed wire tat around your arm so I know you're tough. Your school mascot tat on your calf tells me you're loyal. And the Chinese lettering on you neck signifies to me that you're multicultural. You're hired. When can you start?"
