Then how about they enforce the poaching laws that already exist?

They are, that's what the thread is about.

Exactly. This guy wasn’t selling sausage from a deer he killed, he was buying deer and raccoons from some guy in Mississippi to resale.

Which is problematic for a lot of reasons.
This doesn’t sound too bad, until you read the article. A bit removed from selling your catfish at the boat launch or squirrels on the way back to town.

I didn’t really think that law was enforced.

Not the least of which is chronic wasting disease in Mississippi deer.

It is illegal to sell wild game meat.

Just not fish, shrimp or oysters at the finest restaurants in the world (NOLA) because of that lobby.

it hasn't been inspected. Could be full of disease.

But the issue is selling it. It isn't illegal to give it away, right?

This seller is an idiot. He should have known that it was a set up. No one I know pays $6 a pound for deer sausage.

You can buy it for less or lots of times get someone to give it to you.

Raccoon meat I've never see for sale, but I'd think it would be cheaper.

because you can't get enough legal meat to make a profit. all hunters are in the hole, the meat we kill every year all tallied with lease, cams, guns, gas, etc. is probably worth a hundred dollars per pound. there's absolutely no way he could make a profit without selling illegally gotten meat.

This is the reason that I accept. You can't make a profit without breaking the game laws WRT killing deer.

If it was legal you could recover some of the cost of hunting. Maybe some enjoy the sport but don’t eat wild game? Or a lot gets wasted because killing 2-3 deer is way too much meat to eat before it gets freezer burn. Of course you can give it away which is what I do because the black guys who work on the farm always appreciate a few hindquarters for free. But would be nice to make a few bucks off of it

that's what vacuum sealers are for. for people who eat wild game regularly and not as a novelty, 2-3 deer will get eaten up pretty quickly.

It's in Tennessee now. They will have to really thin down the population to deal with it
