Live in The Woodlands and take advantage of the good schools as long as possible. Then move to bumfu*k country-arse Texas where the kids are dumb as rocks and let my kid make that top percentage more easily.

Nothing like being 14 living in the burbs, smoking weed from time to time and finger fricking girls and coming home one day to dad telling you that you’re moving to buttfrick nowhere so you can get into a better college four years from now. Let us know how that goes over

The fact that anyone took that seriously . Merely pointing out the inadequacy of the system.

Shouldn't have checked off the "White" ethnicity box.

In Texas currently, Asians and Whites are at a disadvantage. But whites more so. A certain amount of slots are held for minorities in Texas public universities. Every single College President is somewhere on the record talking about how they want to increase diversity etc. It's BS. Rather than serving the citizens who fund the school in a fair way, these public entities are all out to significantly help non-citizens/minorites.

Also, since Texas gives away in State tuition to Illegals, many come in to graduate HS in TX, and take advantage.

Competion for good schools is stiff everywhere. Then you add the local flavor. To wit, Texans are the evidence of how identification manifests in consciousness. The whole glorious history. 1836.
The eyes of Texas and billions in oil money.

I like letting the less gifted in. A last chance in the deep end of the pool. Best of their town. God bless them.

31 ACT.

I would think that someone with a 31 on their ACT would be able to get in just about anywhere pretty easy... besides an Ivy League school?

Guess not.. But if you turned 31 around.. and made it 13.. My ACT score was probably closer to than than 31.. Maybe not, I think I had like a 22, but still.

Frisco schools are the same way.. Many parents are moving out to smaller towns so that there is less competition. Your kids at a smaller school 15 miles west of Katy would have been in top 10% easy.

My son went to Collin for first 2 years before going to A&M. Great decision financially and the transition was very easy for him.

connections? yes. this also applies to "students". the average non-connected student at an ivy league is not someone a regular person wants to be around

research shouldn't be a big concern for an undergrad student, and any student that great will get to do whatever they want at any university of scale. professors are similar in that you don't really get the "good" ivy league ones until grad school. undergrad is all TAs. the big names do research, which only helps a very select few in that specific master's program/path

Texas invests a ton into education. Easy to see why so many move from Louisiana to TX

didn't take the AP credit test for all of them and he got 4 or 5 in most of the ones he took - he now has 33 hours that applied to his Major - Business Management

Was there a reason he didn’t sit for some? At my high school kids seem to have taken considerably fewer but they came with the expectation that everyone was getting a 4-5 on them if they were passing the class. Very few ended up with 3 and no one skipped the test unless they were bumped out of the class early on.

It was also rough because they were high end classes aimed at getting you to breeze through testing.... but gpa wasn’t weighted so calculus bc counted the same as a remedial algebra class in gpa

he didnt sit for some because he didnt have nearly enough time to prepare for all of them. he was really focused on getting the highest he could in classes he could apply to his major.

Some of them he did well in the class but he knew he was not proficient enough to get 4/5 so why bother. Things he had taken as a Fr/Soph and didnt retain enough to make it worthwhile to take the tests.

Such as he took three years of German but didnt take the AP German Exam because he said there was no way he would have hit 4/5 in a foreign language AP exam. He said you had to be past conversational moving towards fluent to get the credit so he is just taking German at UT-D. we would have had to be using German at home to get the practice needed.

He likes the German classes and wants the reps anyway.

My daughter is a freshman. I was starting to have some difficulties with her here in California so I sent her to live with my mom for awhile. She's only been at Tompkins a few weeks but seems to really like it and is doing well.

Rice is the #15 school in the country and a 32+ ACT only starts the admissions conversation.
