There's a chance that engineers will care about 7th generation issues and not just toe the line about the current quarterly reports $$$$$ if the engineers have perspective of history and philosophy.

I could handle the calc and As I am in sales in Houston, I would have benefited from learning Spanish.

This whole thing is just so overblown. The idea that you just have to get into the big name schools in order to be successful is a fallacy.

If you have a work ethic and know how to apply yourself, networking skills, and you gain valuable work experience through internships or volunteering. You will be straight. I know of few employers who will refuse to hire someone just because they did not go to a really big school.

Hell, these high schoolers stressing so much over a damn gpa. Employers in the real world don't give a shite about your gpa, college or high school

What if I told all of you that as long as you have a STEM degree from an ABET certified school, you have a higher probability of making the same amount of money if not higher than some kid who went to an insane expensive college for a liberal art . I'll get downvoted but I see it all the time.

This is also true with just STEM degrees form local state schools and elite world renown universities. I worked in a engineering group at a major corporation, there were about 16 in our project group. We had graduates from MIT, Rice, Duke, Cornell, TAMU, U of Houston, other almost unknown state schools like where I cam from, and the clincher is our software guru who was the best producer in the group graduated from Devry. We all had similar responsibility and salaries.

Which is why classical rhetoric should be taught in schools from a young age, because it breaks down the logic of languages and gives them application and context them at the same time. Teaching rhetoric as I did to my students when I taught was beneficial for them and for me, as now that I'm back in school taking a heavy science courseload, the language is easier to parse and the logic of it is much clearer to me.

We've really destroyed the tradition of liberal education by placing college as the gatekeeper of certain jobs. I taught in universities as an adjunct, and I straight up know that at certain large institutions in the South, there is no cogency to the overall curriculum in the rush to increase enrollment. I've seen things at that level which ensures there will be certain large state schools I will never let my children attend. There hasn't been a state school I've encountered that I would let my children attend, and I've taught at large state schools in 3 different states, and in 3 different regions.

And now we have degree mills like that southern New Hampshire bullshite.

Southern New Hampshire University is a respected non-profit brick and mortar school established in the 1930s. Like Arizona State University they have decided to establish themselves as one of the leaders in distance learning.

Lots of good info in here

Talked to my Aggie buddy today about my daughter and Blinn Team. He has a teenaged son in Blinn Team now and two adult daughters with two TAMU degrees each. One of them did Blinn Team as well.

He wants to try to convince my daughter about the Blinn Team experience. My response was your kids are from a legacy Aggie family that always wanted to be Aggies. My daughter was on the fence.

By sending her to two years of JUCO, they basically made the decision for her. One year in SA, then three years in Austin or four years in Baton Rouge.

It is an easy choice in her eyes, I am disappointed. TAMU is only 90mins away from our house

Have you thought at all about private schools? They give a shite ton in scholarships. I would recommend she apply to Tulane, Trinity, and TCU, but it's probably too late now. Back when I was applying a lot of them had rolling admissions but the good fin aid was gone by now.

Would have been something to consider if this was Dec. 15.

I definitely agree that UTSA + UT is better than splitting time between Blinn and A&M.

UTSA >>>> Blinn

and UT seems like it would be a lot more fun and a better experience than A&M.

I have a 6 yo and 10 yo. Any recommendations to make sure they are some of the kids graduating with the gpa closer to 4.0? They are both plenty smart but I just worry about “attention to detail” and desire.
How much do the kids with 4.0s study each day?

Because parents don't want to be told that their child just isn't as smart as they think they are.

i think this would be more of a concern if the standardized test scores didnt line up with the inflated grades.

My daughter is in a similar situation. 6.4 GPA on a 6.0 scale. 33 on the ACT but because she is not in the top 1/4 of her class - (she is 4 kids from being top 25%) she doesn't qualify for alot of the scholarships that she should get.

While she got into her school of choice, her school choices are limited because she is doing Deaf Education. She is just blocked from a full academic ride because of her class rank. If we were in any other school in our district, she would be top 25% easy.

Sigh.
